The NRF Big Show from Jan.14-16, 2024 is the largest retail-focused tradeshow in the U.S., bringing together over 6,000 brands and 40,000 attendees globally to experience the latest in retail innovation, network with industry experts, and build relationships.

Given many new innovations and challenges in retail over the last year, Toshiba Global Commerce Solutions had a significant opportunity to showcase a new way for retailers to experience retail technology, with new innovations that solved their daily challenges, and a path towards frictionless stores that deliver smoother, personalized shopping for consumers. Additionally, the overarching goals of our exhibit were to:

    1. Strengthen our relationships with existing customers and partners and build new opportunities with retail prospects.
    2. Increase existing brand awareness, strengthen our existing reputation within the retail industry, and promote our new company brand story.
    3. Emphasize Toshiba as a global innovator and provider of total, end-to-end retail solutions.
    4. Present the future of retail experiences, available today, with interactive experiences.

The exhibit enabled retailers to see technology demos of end-to-end solutions they need to succeed, including loss prevention and produce/item recognition powered by A.I. and computer vision, biometric checkout, self-checkout systems and kiosks, associated and consumer mobility solutions, personalized loyalty & promotions programs, modular POS systems, augmented reality training, proactive monitoring/issue resolution and wall-to-wall services and an overarching cloud-based ELERA® commerce platform that is modular, composable and connected, and  unifies touchpoints, devices, applications, data, and more to enable retailers to adapt quickly as retail expectations change.

As part of this showcase, a new frictionless experience was available, demonstrating how Toshiba’s modular technologies can be implemented together to create seamless shopping experiences. The experience started with a quick enrollment into a facial recognition application that allowed entrance. Once inside, the technology, powered by A.I., computer vision and the ELERA® Commerce Platform, demonstrated use cases across:

    • Shopper Store Entry
    • Shopper tracking and crowd count
    • Shopper re-identification
    • Item and weight pickup and return tracking
    • Error handling
    • Dynamic Pricing
    • Live shelf mapping & inventory
    • Customer, item, and transaction linking
    • Frictionless checkout and payment

The exhibit itself was designed to implement our updated brand elements and design. Featuring bright, warm colors, shapes, designs, and humanized imagery, paired with a modern design of wood accents, glass walls, metal framing, and an open layout, the booth had a welcoming presence that was in contrast to other booths filled with generic stock images and walled-off booth. Our designs featured incorporated brand elements and our event messaging of creating experiences beyond what’s possible and engaging shoppers by accelerating and transcending retail beyond the ordinary. This story was presented on both large-format graphics on the exterior of the booth, as well as on large monitor arrays inside the booth and on a 50-foot-wide LED display on the front of the booth with internally-developed, custom animated content that presented our story and company brand to attendees entering a main entrance where our exhibit was located.
