Nomination Title: Shifflett Enterprises, a Domino's Pizza Franchisee

   1. Tell the story about what this nominated company achieved in 2004 (up to 500 words). Focus on specific accomplishments, and relate these accomplishments to past performance or industry norms. Be sure to mention obstacles overcome, innovations or discoveries made, and outcomes:

The pizza industry experienced relatively slow growth for the previous three years
leading into 2004. This trend led to a deep discount environment, forcing many
brands to rely on couponing to grow sales. The price of cheese, the mainstay of
pizza; insurance; and fuel rose to significant highs creating a major hurdle for
profitability. As a result of the economic downturn and weakened financial
markets, people had less money to spend on pizza. Despite these obstacles,
Domino's led the pizza delivery industry for same stores sales growth, and
franchisee Jason Shifflett (Shifflett Enterprises) enjoyed one of his most
successful years.

At the young age of 28, Jason Shifflett already owns seven Domino’s Pizza stores,
employing 220 team members. Recognizing the importance of smart hustle in the
store to ensure profitability and repeat orders, Shifflett runs his stores with
speed and precision. For example, nearly 95% of orders placed in 2004 left the store for delivery in 20 minutes or less. Additionally, nearly 93% of order calls were
answered in two rings or less and 92% of deliveries were single orders, allowing
the delivery driver to arrive safely at the customer’s door faster with hot, fresh
pizza.  These are all key measures of success in the pizza delivery business.

Shifflett Enterprises 2004 highlights:

- Increased sales in 2004 by nearly 10% over 2003.

- Opened 7th store in 2004 with record-breaking company and area sales (see link
below).

- Won 4th consecutive Gold Franny Award in 2004 for operational excellence (see
link below). The Gold Franny is the most prestigious honor bestowed on a
Domino’s franchisee.

- Jason Shifflett was named one of Elite Memphis Magazine’s 20 Most Intriguing
Memphians (see link below). He was also awarded the Highest Achievement

assessment (see link below).

- Significantly lowered employee turnover through the implementation of company
training and employee incentive programs.

- Co-founded several community relations initiatives with local schools, including
the Domino’s Pizza Excellence Awards recognizing outstanding academic and
civic achievements by teachers and students.

- Often recognized for its civic contributions, Shifflett Enterprises honors almost
every donation request that comes into the office. Through its close relationship
with the local school system, Shifflett helped raise thousands of dollars for
