Nomination Title: Mark Elrod, Senior Vice President of Marketing and Sales Training

   1. Tell the story about what this nominee achieved in the past year (up to 500 words). Focus on specific accomplishments, and relate these accomplishments to past performance or industry norms. Be sure to mention obstacles overcome, innovations or discoveries made, and outcomes:

Since joining ProEthic in 2002, Mark has served as a sales representative, a district manager, National Director of Sales Training, and now Senior VP of Marketing and Sales Training.  Since he started at ProEthic, he has received the distinctive honor of the Chairman’s Circle of Excellence Award two years in a row.  He won in 2003 for outstanding performance in sales, and he won in 2004 for being the top district manager in the country.  Mark is an outstanding addition to ProEthic; in fact, he has his hand in every aspect of sales, sales training, and marketing at ProEthic. When Mark was promoted to sales training, his original title was Vice President of Marketing and Sales Training.  Recently, Mark’s hard work and dedication paid off, and he was promoted to Senior Vice President of Marketing and Sales Training.  ProEthic’s home office is in Montgomery, Alabama, and Mark commutes from Greenville, South Carolina several times a month.   When he is not commuting to and from Montgomery, he is traveling around the country giving speeches to different groups. He takes his duties in sales training to the extreme, especially for a small pharmaceutical company:

He develops, writes, organizes, and produces national meetings to the extent in production content and quality of large pharmaceutical companies.

He develops and presents continuing medical education (CME) programs for physicians, physician assistants, nurse practitioners, and pharmacists on topics of prostate disease, pain, and respiratory illnesses.  This is unheard of for a small but fast-growing pharmaceutical company.

He develops and integrates all company marketing programs into district and national training.

He writes and produces special training videos involving outside physicians and ProEthic home office and field sales staff.

He trains district managers, who then train the representatives in their territory, on different selling methods to share with physicians.

He trains all new sales representatives to get them ready to sell our line of products.  With this responsibility, he must be an expert on every product we sell (15 right now, with 12 more to be added in 2006) so that he can teach the sales reps exactly how to market the product to physicians.

Perhaps one of the most important qualities that Mark possesses is his knowledge of the medical field.  He is a registered pharmacist, and he is able to combine his knowledge of medical treatment with his skill in sales and marketing.  This is a rare combination to find anywhere.   Mark is one of the hardest working and encouraging employees at ProEthic.  His love of the company and his desire to see it succeed are evident in everything he does.   “There is no way our company would be where it is today without Mark Elrod.  He is just one of those people you know you can count on to do a job without thinking twice about whether he’ll succeed.  His leadership is invaluable to this company,” said Carl Whatley, Chairman and CEO of ProEthic Pharmaceuticals, Inc.
