Nomination Sub Category: Best Marketer
Nomination Title: Lane Butler, VP-Marketing: Developing a Demand-Driven Marketing Organization
In April 2002, the marketing team of I-many, the leading provider of enterprise contract management solutions, was presented with the challenge to develop a plan to expand the company’s focus from a provider of solutions to life sciences companies to a leading enterprise-class solution for contract management for all vertical markets. All of the work was to be done in a 90-day time period, which required a tremendous team effort. While any seasoned marketing team would find this to be a difficult job, the I-many marketing department was staffed by people who, aside from Lane Butler, the VP of marketing, did not have extensive marketing experience. It was Lane’s task to lead this group and develop a marketing strategy for this fast-growing and evolving software firm.
