The Information Technology Industry Council (ITI) is the leading global advocate for technology companies. Our members span a wide range of industries and are driving innovation on every front. Whether they’re leading the charge on AI or neutralizing cyber threats, ITI members develop life-changing products and problem-solving systems.
ITI has been around for 108 years and has long been known as a policy champion. While our reputation as an advocacy stalwart preceded us, ITI had not had a large public event presence. That changed on January 31, 2023, with the debut of The Intersect: A Tech + Policy Summit.
The Intersect was conceptualized as a meeting point for industry experts, policymakers, and visionaries. This convening filled a need in Washington, D.C.; in a town full of summits and events, there was not a major milestone moment. ITI seized this opportunity by developing an impactful, high-level program. The inaugural Intersect consisted of five separate events, welcomed over 300 attendees in person, and featured seven Members of Congress among other participants. The standing-room-only audience was comprised of professionals from a wide swath of industries, including many attendees from Capitol Hill and the Biden Administration. [REDACTED FOR PUBLICATION]
If The Intersect 2023 was an experiment, The Intersect 2024 was proof of concept. On February 7, 2024, ITI convened an even larger audience for a day packed with policymaker discussions. More than 450 attendees joined in person while over 800 people have viewed the event online. [REDACTED FOR PUBLICATION] the event garnered extensive media coverage from major national outlets. C-Span broadcasted the summit and Jabari Young, Senior Writer at Forbes, conducted backstage interviews with several high-profile Intersect speakers:
The Intersect 2024 focused on many tech topics, but none more than AI. Notable onstage moments included Clara Shih, CEO of Salesforce AI, in conversation with Axios’s AI+ author Ryan Heath, as well as a fireside chat on AI and Cybersecurity featuring Deputy National Security Advisor Anne Neuberger and Barbara Humpton, CEO of Siemens USA.
Alongside these meaningful policy discussions, attendees also appreciated the many opportunities to network. Thanks to support from Sage, an Intersect sponsor, ITI welcomed five student fellows from Morehouse and Spelman Colleges in Atlanta, GA, to the event. This allowed students to connect with top tech leaders and strengthened ITI’s Innovation Advisory Board partnership with Morehouse College to expand the next generation’s tech workforce.
In just two years, The Intersect has established itself as a go-to place for tech policy leaders to debut policy positions and for tech companies to demonstrate their positive impact. Planning is already underway for The Intersect 2025, which promises to be even larger than its predecessors.
