Fall-O-Ween, the Home Depot Backyard’s longest running signature event, celebrated its sixth year with a prehistoric party 65 million years in the making mixed with some traditional elements of the Halloween holiday and fall season on October 27-28. Welcoming nearly 5,000 people, this year’s free family-friendly two-day festival featured a Jurassic-themed event with fun for all, headlined by a movie on the lawn showing of the box office hit Jurassic World on opening night and included a “Spirits” Lounge adults (21+) featuring a host of beverage partners.
Across both days of the event there was a “Fun Zone” featuring kid-friendly inflatables and a carnival fun slide to go along with cornhole boards, lawn games, and our always popular playground area. The space also featured several immersive dinosaur-themed photo moments, including a movie-themed sport utility vehicle, roaming dinosaurs, and a festive greenscreen for guests to create lasting memories. Additionally, we were able to leverage several strategic partnerships to elevate the overall experience. One such partnership included Jurassic World: The Exhibition, an immersive experience that brings attendees face-to-face with life-size dinosaurs by walking you through the Jurassic World’s iconic gates to bring the ground-breaking movie franchise to life. The exhibition, which is currently on tour across the US and internationally, made a multi-week stop in Atlanta at Pullman Yards and brought a simulated experience on location to our Fall-O-Ween event, making it the first time the exhibit had done this type of partnership in any of their touring markets.
On Friday evening, our center lawn was transformed into a one-of-a-kind outdoor movie screening experience. Additionally, spooky basketball bus with Courtside ATL, slime making and Candy Corn house building with Brown Toy Box – a locally black-owned S.T.E.A.M. company - entertained hundreds of children throughout the night.
On Saturday, activations included a live interactive pumpkin painting experience with local artist Sway Art, inflatables, and music by a live DJ. Day two activations were highlighted by multiple costume contests, hosted by DJ Michael Blair and Atlanta Falcons mascot Freddie the Falcon, featuring categories for kids, teens, families, and the most creative costume as well as laser tag course, an inflatable maze, S.T.E.A.M. activities, sensory arts and crafts, games, and other event-themed activations like adopt a dinosaur and dino egg nest. The second day of the event also featured a vendor village, allowing us to continue our commitment to empowering the community by promoting economic upward mobility by partnering with local artisans and small businesses from the greater Atlanta region.
