The Home Depot Backyard’s health and wellness classes officially launch in the Spring but that doesn’t mean that fitness must wait. The fifth annual Fitness on the Field event, which is The Home Depot Backyard’s answer to the difficulty of exercising outdoors during the winter months, took place inside Mercedes-Benz Stadium on January 8 and 17, 2024 with highly anticipated wellness programs taking place across the two-day event. Welcoming over 8,000 registrants over both days, this free event is geared towards providing affordable group fitness opportunities for enthusiasts of all experience levels while providing attendees a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to work out on an NFL (Atlanta Falcons) and MLS (Atlanta United) field. Additionally, the four classes represented an opportunity for The Home Depot Backyard to showcase its instructors and the free weekly fitness programming that runs annually from April to October in the outdoor space. The event also featured live DJs and immersive photo experiences, including an oversized faux weight set that allowed attendees to capture memorable moments during the event.
Lululemon served as the presenting partner for this event, providing giveaways as well as curating a multi-discipline fitness session led by a host of the company’s wellness brand ambassadors from the Atlanta market – many of which are small business owners. Gatorade also activated with their G-Fit line of beverages at both nights of Fitness on the Field. Every attendee had the opportunity to grab a free drink on their way in or out of the event at the G-Fit branded tent, table, and backdrop, ensuring that eyes were on their brand. Additionally, The Home Depot Backyard was able to further its commitment to championing diverse and equitable community partnerships by collaborating with three Black-owned small businesses within the wellness industry, including yoga company owned by a woman of color.
Day one featured two sessions of wellness classes with two of the region’s top instructors. The first class was a one-hour Full Body Bootcamp with Lah King of Royal Physique Fitness, which was tailored for participants of all fitness levels. Following that experience was a one-hour Hip-Hop Yoga class led by Jaimee Ratliff, which paired traditional yoga movements with top Hip-Hop and R&B hits as the soundtrack to the session and allowed participants to relax and stretch to end the evening.
Day two was highlighted by a host of instructors across two fitness sessions. The first class was a one-hour Maxx Out Fitness, a class focusing on maximum movement through rhythmic motion, led by fitness guru and social media influencer Darrell ‘DP’ Patterson and members of his Heat Xtreme fitness team. This class was followed by a one-hour experience called Take It Om featuring nine total lululemon brand instructors, which mixed multiple workout styles into one setting such as HIIT, yoga/mobility, and run inspired movements.
As a result, The Home Depot Backyard was able to introduce nearly 75% new participants to the Fitness on the Field experience as well as educate them on our free weekly community programming throughout the year.
