The Home Depot Backyard teamed up with REI Co-op to give Atlanta an outdoor experience unlike any other. With more than 2,200 in attendance across the two-day event, guests were invited to campout Friday night in Atlanta’s #BestBackyard and enjoy music, movies, and activities. Saturday featured a backyard festival for the whole family with rock climbing, rappelling, mountain bike track, interactive outdoor vendors, and so much more! The goal was to create a memorable experience for friends and families alike to gather and explore everything the great outdoors has to offer, even when being hosted in a non-traditional urban environment.
Camping entertainment was highlighted by a campfire setting with s’mores, acoustic music, live demos, panel discussions from diverse guest speakers who have discovered the power of the outdoors and work to make it more accessible. REI also provided several activations, including a camping gear showroom with expert staff and onsite ordering capabilities, a rock-climbing wall, and a movie feature on Friday under the stars produced by REI Co-op Media Films
REI offered 25 glamping tents for the ultimate camping experience. These VIP camping sites sold out within a couple days and featured REI Kingdom tents, camping cots, decorative rug, and camping chairs to relax in all set up and ready for use upon arrival. Price for this experience was very affordable, $25 for the entire set up!
Saturday’s REI Summit Stage featured live demos, storytelling, and panel discussions with diverse camping leaders and experts. Discussion topics and workshops included Camping 101, Hiking 101, a campsite cooking class, and perspective on being outdoors and camping from families, women, and members of the Black community.  Attendees could also try their hand at rappelling and take a lap around the mountain bike track while the whole family could venture into the "Family Fun Zone" to participate in an interactive shadow puppet show, play outdoor games, and enjoy craft stations.
Guests also had the chance to meet and learn more about local non-profits in the outdoor industry at vendor village, relax and unwind in the chill zone, and take part in exclusive offers at REI kiosks – where they could trade in slightly used equipment for gift cards to the retailer.
In total, more than 400 attendees participated on Friday’s campsite experience with 125 camping plots activated and 25 glamping tents in use. Saturday’s festival brought out over 1,800 patrons to enjoy the multitude of activations and inspired learning elements
