Nomination Title: Chris Ashworth, Development Team Lead

  1. Tell the story about what this nominee achieved since January 1 2007 (up to 500 words). Focus on specific accomplishments, and relate these accomplishments to past performance or industry norms. Be sure to mention obstacles overcome, innovations or discoveries made, and outcomes:

Since he joined High Performance Technologies, Inc., in 2006 as a college
recruit, Chris Ashworth has taken on the task of developing the new financial
information dashboard for the U.S. Intelligence Community. This project began as
a solo proof-of-concept development task, and Chris has grown it into a
four-person effort. Throughout the project’s development lifecycle, Chris has
presented the dashboard to the government client’s Chief Financial Officer and
other high-ranking officers. These meetings ranged in size from a handful of
staff to 20+ customers—and the fact that they were conducted by an entry-level
person attests to Chris's exceptional abilities and performance. Chris’s
reporting dashboard was eventually renamed the electronic reporting tool
(ERT)—and it is now a tool that helps the customer track and manage government
program budgets on vital tasks that ensure the security of America.

Chris has been named by the Director of the ERT program as the point person for
all ERT requirements and enhancements. His technical contributions, understanding
of the customer’s business needs, and leadership skills played a key role in how
HPTi gained the customer’s trust for ERT development. As a direct result of
Chris’s technical proficiency, the client awarded the firm an additional
$500,000 for ERT enhancements in 2007. In addition, Chris has been formally
named the Development Team Lead. He has gained the trust and respect of
his peers on the mixed HPTi and government team, and personnel at or above his
level look to Chris for direction and leadership, both in solving technical
    challenges and in business-area guidance.

Since the release of the ERT, Chris has not rested on his laurels. He continues
important work on several efforts within his project, including the Common
Reporting Framework. The CRF is able to generate reports from a central
database regardless of what application is used. For the CRF, Chris researched
various technologies that could be used to create reports, chose a tool, and
created a prototype based on the technology. Then, he rolled these efforts into
a presentation for his client. After the client quickly approved Chris’s
prototype, Chris combined the selected tool with several leading Java
technologies to create the CRF. While driving this substantial effort, Chris
also took the time to obtain an Oracle database certification—proof of his
commitment to continue to build his skills.

In his spare time, Chris is committed to enriching this work environment and the
HPTi culture. He volunteers as the company’s social director, and in 2007, he
organized and executed several company-wide outings such as a trip to a
Washington Capitals’ ice hockey game and an employee “broomball” game. Chris’s
excellence during and after work hours earned him HPTi’s highest honor for
junior employees—the 2007 Employee of the Year award.

earning bachelor’s degrees in computer science and math from James Madison
University. Since joining HPTi, he has increased his skills in Web development
and various Oracle products dramatically, enrolling in master’s-level courses.
Due to management satisfaction with his technical expertise, he has become the
lead developer on several efforts within his project. Recently, due to high
client satisfaction, the customer named him the project’s team lead.
