Norway’s Directorate of Health leveraged Everbridge’s Public Warning Center (PWC) to quickly alert 10,000+ travelers coming into Norway and Norwegians abroad of the changing risk landscape related to COVID-19, the latest procedures and protocols, and recommended quarantine guidelines. The Norwegian Directorate for Health utilized the Everbridge PWC to successfully communicate with almost five and half million mobile phones in Norway. The Directorate for Health also communicated with all non-Norwegian phones roaming inside the country in English, French, German, Spanish, Polish and Russian, providing critical instructions for foreign nationals. For example, Norway’s Directorate of Health was able to alert Russian fishermen in Norway of updated COVID-19 guidelines in Russian. Similarly, Norwegian authorities relied on Everbridge to inform Norwegian citizens abroad of new guidelines necessary upon re-entering their home country while reports of coronavirus cases in multiple tourist destinations piled up. With Everbridge’s PWC, Norway provided timely, valuable, and potentially life-saving information to the population while completely protecting the privacy of individual recipients without collecting personally identifiable information (PII) when delivering a customized SMS alert to those specific Norwegian travelers, advising them of official information from the Health Ministry. Because Everbridge’s PWC is the world’s only all-channel, intelligent population alerting platform, Everbridge was able to combine the speed of Cell Broadcast with the precision, filtering, and control of Location-Based SMS, and, therefore, choose the best communication method to reach people at a country-wide scale automatically and dynamically with updates from the Norway Directorate of Health. Everbridge represents the first population alerting provider to serve the entire populations of 11 countries in Europe, Asia, Oceania, the Middle East, Africa, and the Americas, supporting five European Union (EU) countries in conjunction with the EU mandate requiring member countries to have a population-wide alerting system in place by June 2022. In compliance with GDPR, Everbridge Public Warning neither collects nor stores personally identifiable information (PII) data. Everbridge currently supports population-wide alerting in 11 countries including Australia, Greece, Iceland, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Peru, Singapore and Sweden, as well as deployments within all of Canada’s provinces and multiple states in India.
