American Business Awards: Most Innovative Business Podcast
Podcast Mission:
- Provide vital, useful & interesting information concerning the primary topic of public relations: media relations, methodology, diversity issues, problem solving. 2. Allow PR pros who listen to my podcasts to widen their industry knowledge.
Podcast Situation Requiring Innovative Approach
(1) identify & secure PR pros to interview from each of 50 states (2) Build a nation-wide audience and beyond. 3. Create a podcast that is innovative and interesting.
Innovative Podcast Resolution
Although I have been in public relations for over 25 years, including radio/TV production/hosting, I do not have PR contacts all 50 states. My Public Relations Review Podcast launched in 2019. After deliberation, the solution fell into place. It had multiple components:
A- Identify potential podcast guests by reviewing PR articles printed in national public relations journals, newspapers, digital articles, etc. Contact them with offers to discuss their PR story content or expertise as my podcast guest.
B-.Secure my podcast guests who have a unique PR prospective and can discuss effective PR tools and can offer novel approaches to a topic. For example:
1—*Cause Marketing & PR in Maine specializes in securing the appropriate animal to appear in advertising and for public relations events. Data confirms that animals in advertising has positive benefits for sponsors. *A police department in Flathead, Montana provided information on programs offered to help regional police departments and other law enforcement agencies understand the benefits of public relations. *Our interview with the public relations official for the Mississippi Arts Commission allowed the audience to understand how public relations (1) help generate a positive image of the state,
(2) Provide assistance to community arts groups producing events. encourage kids and families to become involved in the arts, and more. *My first six state conference call interview with communications officers from six states (AL, CO, MI, NY, CA, TX) discussing how they help the public to better understand the performance of public schools located in rural, metropolitan, suburban areas on the North, South, East & West. *The publisher of the new digital “Strategic Communications’ magazine was a guest to announce the launch of this new international publication. That interview was a Trans-Atlantic call from Tennessee to Ireland.
*The “most popular” podcast episode was my discussion with two other PR professionals (SC & NJ) on how our individual involvement in national political campaigns helped seriously boost our public relations careers into very senior levels. That episode was downloaded close to five times more than any other episode to-date.
Increase Listenership and Podcast Reach: My guests continue to post interviews on all types of social media: Facebook. Tweeted links, posts on LinkedIn & Websites. Podcast exposure multiplied exponentially with links to specific episodes via national
Public Relations Society of America organization (PRSA) online forum further boosted audience.
C- Most importantly and a popular component of my outreach pitch and of GREAT interest to all guests on my podcase is that EACH GUEST received an mp3 copy of their episode to post on their website or in promotional mediums. I have not heard of any other PR podcast providing mp3 files to their guests. Links are included in this package. There is no charge for them for these serries
Verified results from these outreach efforts: and the subsequent audience growth over the past two years: In 2021, the Public Relations Review Podcast was rated as one of the nation’s top/best PR Podcasts by SIX sites (Listings provided). The Nashville chapter of the Public Relations Society of America presented mu podcast with its “Parthenon Award” judged as a “best public relations podcast.”
