Every Wednesday, UWM hosts a sales meeting, where over 600 account executives, sales leaders and clients gather to hear about current market insights and how to get the most out of UWM’s latest tools, technology and products. This is a required 45-60 minute in-person meeting for team members, to help them get better and leave with key takeaways.
The high-energy meeting is jam packed with everything ranging from product announcements and industry updates from our President and CEO, Mat Ishbia to motivational talks from Leadership Coach and former NCAA basketball champion, Mateen Cleaves. Essentially, each meeting covers off on four areas – industry updates, celebration/recognition, continuous improvement and motivation.
Each Wednesday, the meeting starts promptly at 9AM with our CEO introducing new products, tools and/or technology roll-outs as well as key industry updates. With a quick two-clap (instead of a round of applause to create more efficiency), Mat introduces a senior leader to share best practices and team member recognition. For example, each week a “dominate” shirt given out to a sales team member who has gone above and beyond in their role. Additionally, sales leaders play a recorded call from a client and an account executive and discuss best practices from that conversation. Following the sales leaders, Mateen Cleaves comes on stage for “Motivation with Mateen,” where he shares inspirational stories and advice on how to reach your full potential. The meeting wraps up with Mat Ishbia coming back on stage to recap and close out the huddle.

There aren’t many CEO’s who make themselves available on a weekly basis to speak to their entire sales team. The consistency of our sales meetings have given our team something to look forward to, while allowing them to grow, get better and finish out the remainder of their week strong.
At UWM, we view our broker partners as an extension of our team. After coming to UWM for in-person trainings, many clients asked if there was any way they could sit in on our sales meetings every week from their own offices. Because the demand was so high, we decided to open up these meetings virtually to clients in 2021 so they could take advantage of the company updates, industry insights and motivational talks in real time. Currently, we have over 3,000 partners that stream in each week and make this a routine meeting in their schedules. If a team member or client is unable to attend the live session of the meeting, they can watch it later by logging into their account on our website, or can watch our CEO’s short video, called Fastbreak, which goes over highlights from each week’s meeting. Continuous improvement is something we strive for at UWM, and these weekly meetings are a great way to hold our entire sales team and our clients accountable.
