Nomination Title: Transamerica Retirement Services' Sales Department

Tell the story about what this nominated department achieved since the beginning of July last year (up to 500 words). Focus on specific accomplishments, and relate these accomplishments to past performance or industry norms. Be sure to mention obstacles overcome, innovations or discoveries made, and outcomes:

Achieving an 80% increase in assets from the previous year in a year marked by
economic challenges is quite a feat. That’s exactly what the sales team for
Transamerica Retirement Services accomplished in 2010. A marketing unit of
Transamerica Financial Life Insurance Company, the company specializes in
customized retirement plans that meet the unique needs of small- to mid-sized
businesses. In 2010, the sales team added 550 retirements plans to bring the
company’s total to 15,550 plans totaling more than $16.5 billion in assets.

A key component of that success was the introduction of an enhanced Annual
Retirement Plan Review. This initiative began late in 2009 when the company set
out to develop a comprehensive, annual plan review that would reflect their
sponsor customers’ goals for plan management and provide actionable
opportunities for improvement. Transamerica’s enhanced Annual Retirement Plan
Review offers levels of customization and features that are unique to the market
segments they serve in that it provides small and mid-sized plans with the
attention that most providers usually make available only to large plans.

Another value-added service that helped drive sales while fostering retention
was the April introduction of new mobile capabilities to enable their retirement
plan participants to easily monitor retirement accounts using an Apple® iPhone®
or iPod touch®.  The Transamerica Retirement Services Industry Speakers Bureau
and the TPA Administrator Training Institute provided additional support for
their customers along with valuable industry insight for all TPAs and
administrators currently or interested in working with Transamerica Retirement
Services. The Speakers Bureau and Training Institute both provide new platforms
for the company to communicate and build relationships with TPAs, and educate
them on issues and topics that can give them an advantage in this market.

In September the company enhanced its investment line-up by adding investment
choices and styles to provide customers with increased flexibility in
structuring investment menus. In November it introduced a new systematic plan
called “Total Plan Management.” This unique service brings together three vital
aspects of retirement plan fundamentals—education, fiduciary and annual review—
to help sponsors in the small- and mid-sized markets assess and identify
specific plan needs, set goals, and take action to enhance their plan’s overall
success. The program provides an excellent framework that financial advisors and
third-party administrators can leverage to help plan sponsors meet the
increasingly diverse needs of their employer-sponsored retirement plans.

These initiatives resulted in an increase of business totaling an additional
$3.3 billion in assets and earned the company industry accolades, including
being rated as the top performing plan provider in multiple product and service
areas in Chatham Partners’ 2009 Client Satisfaction Analysis, with 38 “Best in
Class” ratings, and the DALBAR Seal of Excellence for Communications, the fifth
consecutive year that Transamerica’s web sites have earned this honor.
