At Nutun, a South African BPO, Chava Alter, exemplifies the company’s spirit of innovation and entrepreneurial thinking. As Vice President of International Client Solutions, she has been instrumental in building Nutun’s international sales and customer service capabilities from the ground up since joining in October 2021.

Chava developed the team’s framework, business processes, legal structures, and recruitment of the first intake of team members, all by November 2021. Since then, she has grown her team to 30 business development specialists and research analysts, driving remarkable year-on-year growth in international client acquisition.

Under Chava’s leadership, the team has successfully secured major global clients, expanding Nutun’s footprint and creating significant employment opportunities in South Africa. Her work directly impacts the company’s ability to address the country’s critical unemployment challenges, adding purpose and impact to her role.

Chava’s entrepreneurial journey began early, selling advertising at school in Johannesburg. This developed as she honed her sales and leadership skills at VAT IT, where she had the task of managing 250+ client accounts in New York City by age 26. Ultimately, it is her achievements at Nutun that define her as a trailblazer, combining her passion for growth with a commitment to driving meaningful change.

  4. Outline the nominee's achievements since July 1 2022 that you wish to bring to the judges' attention (up to 250 words):

    Total 250 words used.

Chava has built Nutun’s International Client Solutions department from the ground up, growing her team from 0 to 30 within three years. Her passion for developing talent and fostering an innovative, dynamic sales environment has driven exceptional results.

Since establishing the department, Chava has spearheaded efforts to secure high-profile clients, including Walmart in the US, Australia’s largest shoe retailer, and the first US bank to outsource customer service operations to South Africa.

In 2022, Chava led her team to sign eight new international clients, and under her continued leadership, they have secured an additional 27 major clients. This contributed to Nutun being recognized as the fastest-growing BPO operator in South Africa in 2023. Chava’s team alone generated $2.5 million in annual revenue in 2022, $11 million in 2023, and $22 million in 2024, demonstrating exponential growth and global market confidence in both Nutun and South Africa as a premier outsourcing destination.

Additionally, Chava and her team’s signings have made a significant impact on Nutun’s world-first One Agent, One Child (OAOC) program, an initiative where for every eligible international agent, a South African child receives the gift of literacy.

To do this, Nutun has built dedicated literacy hubs where children receive one-on-one tutoring in literacy and language. Chava and her team source the new business and therefore the funds to build these Literacy Hubs together with the resources needed to run them. This includes all tutors and their training, the computers they use and the physical classrooms they learn in.

  5. Explain why the achievements you have highlighted are unique or significant. If possible compare the achievements to the performance of other players in your industry and/or to the nominee's past performance (up to 250 words):

    Total 247 words used.

Chava has been instrumental in equipping her team to encourage international brands to outsource their customer service to South Africa. This team has created job opportunities for the youth of South Africa, employing almost 1700 people to date.

Chava is obsessed with drawing out the full potential of others, in her own team and farther afield. Under her leadership, 75% of her team members have been promoted and in an industry dominated by broker-facilitated deals, Chava has disrupted the norm by building a high-performing team of direct sales executives. They have nearly 50 opportunities looking to close in 2025!

But Chava passion extends even beyond this - she’s dedicated to making meaningful change in the lives of South African school children too. Many of the clients Chava has signed have pledged their support to Nutun’s world-first One Agent, One Child program, an initiative that Chava is dedicated to supporting through her ongoing work. Since launching in May 2023, Chava’s team has contributed to:

    • Building 9 literacy hubs across two provinces

    • Hiring and training 45 tutors and 112 educators

    • Enrolling 1440 children in the program

These results are significant because, currently, 81% of 10-year-old children in South Africa cannot read for meaning — something OAOC is actively working to reduce.

The program contributes to children’s education, increasing their chances of finding a job one day and tackling youth unemployment which is rife in South Africa.

Her achievements embody a rare blend of business success and meaningful social impact.
