In the past, Launchpad, Veeam’s sales kickoff event, was limited to our sales teams. Different approaches had been implemented, including the executive team traveling to global locations over a three-week period to conduct consecutive sales kickoff events. Previously, the event had been 100% virtual and conducted by location. While cohesion was promoted in specific regional locations, global unity was lacking. Veeam developed ambitious, inclusive, and developmental goals for Launchpad 2023. One of the key achievements was fostering global cross-collaboration and awareness, ensuring that every employee could see the critical role they play in the company's success. The business aimed to break down silos and create alignment across the company, specifically by including those who had not participated in the past. For the first time since the COVID-19 pandemic, employees could join the sales kickoff in person or virtually. What had previously been known as the ‘sales kickoff’ evolved into a comprehensive sales training program, rebranded as Launchpad. Launchpad has evolved to feature a global company keynote, executive updates, and live enablement sessions, with the goal of driving home the impact each department has on the company. The event was scheduled across five geographic locations, with the virtual audience considered as a ‘sixth location’. Most importantly, Launchpad took place simultaneously across all locations and time zones.

Gamification and simulation were identified as important elements of Launchpad to foster Global cross-collaboration, and knowledge retention. Veeam’s Learning & Development team, Sales Acceleration, spearheaded the design of Launchpad and specifically the design and creation of all the enablement content used throughout. The entire program was designed as a true blended program with online, live, and gamification components which allowed for Global unity. This is a significant change from the past when there was no global unity that allowed all employees to participate. This year’s program was delivered in three phases: prerequisites, live sessions, and simulation. This approach engaged learners early and often for maximum retention when compared to previous iterations. The Sales Acceleration team worked with internal and external business partners to design the program. Pre-work was also included. Veeam leveraged the external company, Alchemist, for the simulation and gamification platform/app used during Launchpad, which was new in 2023. Employees first completed pre-work within the gamification platform in the weeks prior to the event. By completing the pre-work, employees were familiar with product selling concepts aligned to the new product suite. During the Launchpad event, live sessions were held to ensure attendees reviewed the core concepts such as cross-selling the cloud, selling the company’s entire portfolio, and aligning company messaging. The delivery of the program was administered using a custom-built learning platform that allowed Veeam to use gamification to enhance the interface for a seamless learner experience.
