Nomination Title: Rambus Community Involvement Program Led by Stephanie Webb

Describe for the judges the activities and accomplishments of the nominated company during the eligibility period (up to 500 words):

Most companies select a favorite or “corporate” charity, food drive and/or
annual event. And typically, the amount spent on philanthropic efforts is set by
member(s) of the executive team. This isn’t the case at Rambus. At Rambus,
community programs are driven by the employees themselves.

Case in point: Stephanie Webb. Stephanie, a Human Resources Program Manager at
Rambus, has volunteered her own time to take on the organization of all
Rambus-sponsored community programs. She has helped initiate blood drives with
the American Red Cross and assembled teams of employee volunteers to build new
homes for needy families with Habitat for Humanity. Rambus believes that by
actively engaging in charitable projects, they can foster a healthier
environment for future growth and development.

Also core to the Rambus culture is a belief in the power of education and
technology to create change. As such, the company invests in math, science and
technology programs that encourage the gifted innovators of tomorrow. With the
help of various Rambus employees, Rambus has expanded the company’s philanthropy
to scholarships, awards and donations within surrounding communities. In May of
2009, Rambus granted two $10,000 “Innovator of the Future” scholarships. Rambus’
“Innovator of the Future” is awarded annually to high school seniors who
demonstrate a passion for science and technology. Specifically, Rambus pays out
the scholarships in increments of $2,500 over the course of four years after the
recipients enroll in college. Not to be left empty-handed, all “Innovator of the
Future” finalists receive $1,000, intended to be used for future college expenses.

Extending its generous support within the field of education, Rambus bestows an
annual award to two extraordinary local teachers. This award makes it possible
for recipients to attend the Krause Center for Innovation Merit Program, a
course designed to show teachers how to integrate technology into classrooms.
After the ten-day course is completed and the teachers have had a chance to
apply what they learned, Rambus hosts an awards banquet and grants $5,000 to the
teacher who demonstrates the best implementation of technology into the classroom.

Rambus has also donated hundreds of laptops to schools and charitable
organizations to help advance the education of local youth.

In addition to supporting employee-driven community service projects, Rambus
embraces its employees’ individual charitable interests by:

•             Encouraging employee giving via a company-wide monetary gift-matching program
•             Offering eight paid-time-off hours for employees to volunteer
•             Conducting in-house donation drives to facilitate donations from employees
(example: blood drives, holiday can and toy drives, etc.)

Under Stephanie’s leadership this year, Rambus employees spent more than 1,900
hours volunteering at various charitable organizations, orchestrated multiple
charitable campaigns and collaborated with more than 20 organizations that
strive to promote the quality of surrounding communities.
