Fatima Sultan Al-Kuwari is Ooredoo Group’s Chief Human Resources Officer (GCHRO) since April 2021 and the Chairperson of Ooredoo Maldives since December 2021. Before this role as the Group’s CHRO, Fatima was Ooredoo Qatar’s Chief Consumer Officer. Previously, she was Ooredoo’s Acting Group Chief Commercial Officer (CCO). Fatima joined Ooredoo in 2006 and has held a number of senior roles, including Ooredoo Group’s Executive Director of Marketing and Ooredoo Qatar’s Director of Public Relations and CSR. Currently, Fatima leads the company’s strategic HR management and transformation to create a more modern, efficient, and agile way of work. She is an experienced telecommunications executive, with over 16 years of experience in commercial, marketing, product development, digital transformation, vendor-relationship management and branding and communications. Fatima is the first female chairperson in one of Ooredoo’s companies, Ooredoo Maldives, the first board with equal gender representation in the group. She is also the first woman in the history of Ooredoo Kuwait to be appointed as a Board Member of the company. She holds a B.S. in Computer Science from University of Qatar, an Executive Masters in Leadership from Georgetown University and an MBA (specialising in Marketing) from the University of Liverpool.

In 2020, Fatima successful led the consumer team in Ooredoo Qatar and turned around the business with a USD 1 billion annual revenue and EBITDA margin of 52%. Fatima has led Ooredoo Group’s Human Resources team and driven the Group’s HR transformation since March 2021. Some of her key achievements include:
- restructuring the Group's HR department to increase operational efficiency, with five expert teams (Talent Acquisition, Talent Development, Employee Experience, Organisational Design & Reward and HR Transformation Office) formed to work on new focus areas
- full succession planning for C-suite executives across the company footprint to ensure business continuity and sustainability of success,
- launching and sponsoring a leadership development programme in partnership with Harvard University exclusive to Ooredoo employees to groom future leaders of the organization.
- leading Diversity and Inclusion activities across the Group to push for greater gender diversity within the industry, including sponsoring a full women’s month in March 2022 as well as activities focusing on women leadership.
- trialing a flexible working initiative in 2021 allowing employees to work from home per week that was so successful that it was institutionalized as company policy in 2022, and also spurred another trial that enables employees to work from home at a location outside Qatar for up to four weeks per year.

Despite wearing two hats as CCO in Ooredoo Qatar and GCHRO in Ooredoo Group, Fatima has succeeded in transforming any function or initiative she has worked on within record time, regardless of the timeline or the scale of the task at hand.
The positive and sustainable impact of the projects Fatima oversees as well as the support and inspiration she empowers her team with to turnaround and transform the business functions and areas that she leads is her greatest success as a leader till date. Under Fatima’s leadership, Ooredoo Organizational Health Index improved from being on the second quartile to the top quartile, with employee engagement index being in the top decile.
Fatima’s active interest as well as participation in driving Diversity & Inclusion activities also make her a role model for women in the industry as well as region.
