During her 35 years in the banking industry, Deborah Bateman has accomplished
significant milestones both professionally and philanthropically and is an
established and celebrated role model in her community.

As a leader in her profession, Deborah has championed a number of projects
created and executed to empower women throughout the Phoenix metro area to
strengthen their careers, propel their businesses forward and mentor up-and-
coming professionals. Deborah seeks to find opportunities to give women the
support and resources they need.

One of her more recent accomplishments is the establishment of a networking and
resource group dedicated to female business owners called Women’s Financial
Group (WFG). An unprecedented initiative in the community to support woman
business owners, WFG offers women a free, one-stop resource for financial
planning, business services, networking and peer-to-peer mentoring. Since
Deborah established the group in April 2009, WFG has grown to be the most
impactful, ongoing mentorships in the Phoenix area. As a result of Deborah’s
grassroots efforts to launch WFG, the group has grown to over 1,000 women,
many who have reported successful and profitable tactics implemented as a result
of WFG. Success stories include networking that has resulted in new
partnerships, strengthening skills to further market their business and executing
practical business advice.

One illustration of Deborah’s leadership is organizing and hosting free financial
seminars specifically geared toward women. Deborah has been instrumental in
bringing in highly sought-after authors, including Best-Selling Authors Laura
Liswood, Sharon Lechter, and Barbara Weaver-Smith. Deborah continuously
seeks to collaborate with other organizations in the community to and has worked
with organizations like The Arizona Small Business Association, SCORE and
NAWBO. In August, Deborah will host a motivational event for WFG, featuring the
first female Indy 500 racer, Lyn St James.

Philanthropically, Deborah’s charitable efforts in the last three years have
resulted in almost $5 million for the benefit of organizations in Arizona. Personally,
Deborah contributes over 500 hours each year to philanthropy and her community. She
tirelessly offers her time and expertise to nonprofits, including the Arizona
Foundation for Women, American Heart Association’s Heart Ball, Juvenile
Diabetes Research Foundation, The Phoenix Zoo, and Arizona State University’s
Women and Philanthropy. She also serves as a Skills Commissioner for the
Arizona State Department of Education.
