Nomination Title: Weili Dai and Marvell Technology Group

Describe for the judges the activities and accomplishments of the nominated organization since the beginning of July last year (up to 500 words):

Weili Dai has the distinction of being the only woman co-founder of an American semiconductor company. The Chinese-born, U.S.-educated self described "geek" cofounded Marvell Technology Group in 1995 with her husband, Sehat Sutardja. Now it has 6,000 employees and annual revenues of $3.4 billion, is one of the world's leading producers of "fabless" semiconductors, and has a client roster that includes Apple, Samsung, Toshiba and Western Digital.

Raised in China with egalitarian vales, Dai brings those values to her leadership at Marvell and in her work to support women in Science, Technology Engineering and Math (STEM).

2012 has seen several new innovations soon to make a big impact on the world of technology and the interconnectedness of people through technology.

Ms. Dai is also a noted philanthropist and was the first female commencement Speaker at UC Berkeley's School of Engineering, where a building was recently named in her husband's honor and her two sons are PhD candidates.

In 2012: Marvell introduced several new innovative chips :

Marvell supplied the second generation of Google TV System on a Chip set top boxes to make TV a truly interactive experience. Marvell’s Armada 1500 Foresight platform will enable Google TV set-top boxes display HD video, 3D graphics, and other rich multimedia entertainment, Weili Dai, co-founder of Marvell, told VentureBeat. While the first version of Google TV didn’t do so well last year, Dai is confident that the second generation is more appealing.

Marvell introduced the world’s first TD-HSPA+ modem chip for smartphones used in emerging countries such as China. The new modem chip, the Marvell PXA1202, can triple the data rate for phones connected to TD-SCDMA networks.

The new PXA1802 chip will help address geographic fragmentation problems that have slowed adoption of certain mobile standards in CHina.

Marvell said it will have a number of new handset design wins for its TD-SCDMA chips for emerging markets such as China. Those designs use a user interface from Marvell dubbed Kinoma.

Marvell’s new WiFi platform, Avastar, will be upgraded to handle 802.11ac, which promises much faster wireless networking in the not so distant future Marvell said it is also launching technology to support easier mobile printing via WiFi networks.

Ms. Dai has served a pivotal role in creating some of the Company’s most important strategic partnerships

She told Little Pink Book,"I did a partnership with Intel in 2000. People thought I was crazy because they're our competition. It was a very successful partnership and is still going after nine years. We have more product lines together today."

Marvell also has a major partnership with the One Laptop Per Child campaign.

Dai firmly believes in the idea of the connected home. The impact that smartphones and tablets have had on the world will only extend to other parts of our lives — starting with the living room, but also extending to the car and appliances. For Marvell, the goal is to be the platform that all of these devices can use to grow.
