With over 25 years experience as a world-class flute tutor, I'm committed to teaching the power of proper flute playing technique. From a young age, I embraced the flute's strategic demands and pursued it through high school and college, becoming the subject of a prominent study - The Virtual Flute.
Driven by a desire to learn and improve, I travelled to Paris to study under renowned flute player, Vincent Lucas, significantly enhancing my skills. As an adult learner, I found a passion for deconstructing techniques and explaining complex concepts to students, igniting a strong desire to be an influential teacher.
In 2013, I co-authored a music book and ventured into the online business world, gaining popularity with a viral YouTube tutorial. This inspired the creation of a short course for flute players, which received enthusiastic responses.
    My Flute Academy services include:
    • masterclasses, workshops - 200 flautists worldwide
    • programs - 45-day flute transformation, superhuman breathing, fast fingers.
    • scholarships - students facing financial difficulties
    • online membership portal packed with lessons and tips.
I've broken barriers as a world-class flute tutor, proving to flautists technique is everything. My ultimate goal - help people transform their flute playing and nurture their passion for music.
  4. Outline the nominee's achievements since July 1 2021 that you wish to bring to the judges' attention (up to 250 words):

Over the past two years, The Flute Academy has seen remarkable growth [REDACTED FOR PUBLICATION]. It has seen a 50% year-on-year increase in 2021-22 and an impressive 72% growth in 2022-23.
Since launching October 2021, The Flute Academy has welcomed nearly 200 students globally, but recently, new registrations have plateaued. To address this, proactive measures, particularly technology-based improvements, have been implemented to support a scalable and sustainable business model. Attending a Kajabi conference in Texas led to valuable insights, inspiring the creation of a "tiny course", which significantly boosted sign-ups.
Technology also extends to a robot-writer that mimics my handwriting, ensuring a consistent high-level customer experience as the business expands. Beyond financial success, The Flute Academy has fostered a thriving global flute community through monthly Zoom concerts and a peer support program, encouraging camaraderie and mutual growth.
Demonstrating social responsibility, I introduced a scholarship program, awarding students in Ghana and the US. A "giving back" initiative resulted in $8,700 donated to various charities, and fundraising concerts for the music therapy program at Sydney Children's Hospital, showcasing my commitment to community engagement.
On a personal level, my involvement in a challenging Brazilian band and performance at the Brazilian Embassy in Canberra was an inspiration to students and demonstrated my true passion for music.
With a dedication to continuous improvement and fostering a supportive musical community, The Flute Academy will continue to make a positive impact on flute players worldwide.
  5. Reference any attachments of supporting materials throughout this nomination and how they provide evidence of the claims you have made in this nomination (up to 250 words):

Additional to the services I provide through The Flute Academy, I contribute to the local community, donating a portion of The Flute Academy's revenue to a cause that I believe in. You will see more about this in the support document, including donating $8,699 (AUD) of my $100,000 goal.
Some of my most treasured contributions include sponsoring a Kenyan girl through a year of her education. Every year, I play in a fundraising orchestral concert at Sydney Town Hall, where ticket sales raise money for the Sydney Children's Hospital Music Therapy program.
Direct to the local flute community, I award scholarships to The Flute Academy to students facing economic or financial hardship. Every 3 months, I offer limited free memberships to intermediate players, which gives them access to The Flute Academy for a year, valued at $495.
    [REDACTED FOR PUBLICATION]
I want to start donating to Symphony For Life Foundation - a registered charity that uses music to help disadvantaged children advance academically. It also helps build connections between parents and new opportunities for community engagement, across 23 countries.

  6. Explain why the achievements you have highlighted are unique or significant. If possible compare the achievements to the performance of other players in your industry and/or to the nominee's past performance (up to 250 words):

"I can honestly say that after 25 years of breathy mediocrity, my tone has taken a forward leap. No teacher, no tutor-book, has ever made breath-control so clearly understandable!" - John Hollins.
This isn't an uncommon reaction from my students; nor do I ever get sick of hearing. The old saying 'practice makes perfect' is one I challenge with my methodology - a proven teaching strategy that progress is faster through proper technique.
The Flute Academy focuses on mastering playing techniques by deconstructing the processes into smaller steps. This helps intermediate flautists improve their playing through an online membership-based repertoire of pre-recorded transformational lessons and workshops to fix their underlying techniques.
International membership access, including fresh monthly content, shows students how to practise (and teach) so they can learn new skills, including step-by-step breakdowns to embrace and enhance their abilities.
Repertoire classes guide students through how to strategically overcome common stumbling blocks, giving them a head start to mastering the flute. They're provided with peer-based educational "open lessons" from fellow academy students, and featured students receive free personalised tips on how to progress even further.
Automatically applied on the tenth day of membership is a 45-day strategic program. It's a series of daily micro-improvements that transform a student's technique by learning how to make precise adjustments or "tweaks" to playing.
As a player, I understand the importance of building a connection with a music tutor. I nurture that connection by encouraging people to take their time to join.
