Being the Employer of Choice and Provider of Choice means diversity is at our core. The diversity of our employees mirrors the diversity of our stakeholders. It enables us to deliver innovative products that make our customers successful. DGFF brings together people from a wide range of societies and cultural backgrounds – all of them with differing skills, experiences, and views. 46% of our workforce engages women of different ages and heritages.
We have come a long way as an organization in terms of engaging our employees. In 2014 we went through a hard time in terms of financial performance and we lost the focus on our employees. Since then, we have developed programs focused on creating a strong culture and common values which took our Employee Opinion Survey results on Employee Engagement from 70% in 2014 to 87% in 2020.
Beginning of 2019, we identified the need to harness the benefit of Diversity & Inclusion (D&I) initiatives across the business and integrate them strategically into our workplace.
Together with an external consultancy, we run from March to October 2019 workshops and focused groups with employees across all regions to identify the perception of D&I. Gender explicit policies and governance to guide practices came as one of the needs.
In November 2019, Women at DHL Global Forwarding, Freight (DGFF) was officially included in our Priorities 2020 and Strategy 2025: “The development of talented women in our organization and to bring more women in leadership positions will be a focus topic going forward. For this, we will drive Women at DGFF initiatives across the regions to support and mentor them on their way through our organization.”
The initiative falls under the “Employer of Choice” and the topic remained a priority in 2021 as well. The project team consists of a project lead and 20 project members, 16 of those employees belonging to Human Resources (global and regional).
Project Focus areas (and work- streams for project team):
1. Transparency by monitoring
2. Work Arrangements
3. Talent Management
4. Career Support
5. Culture and mindset
6. Mentors and networks
Under these focus areas, we implement initiatives across the regions to engage not only employees identifying as Women but allies as well. Examples: Women in Leadership Program, Women at DGFF Learning Series, and external campaigns through Social Media, Sponsorships (International Women’s Day 2021), etc.
Women at DGFF as part of Priorities 2020, 2021, and Strategy 2025:
Having Women at DGF as part of our DGF Priorities under “Future of work” means our management is sponsoring the initiative and countries define and roll out initiatives across the globe to increase the ratio of female talents in leadership positions.
Women in Leadership numbers:
Women in leadership (RCS Grades B- H) in DGFF increased by 3.7%pt since Dec 2019 and is now at 23.7%. DGFF’s overall female diversity share (full population) is at 42.4% and with that significantly above DPDHL’s average (34.2%). Significant increase in female placements (RCS Grades B- H above 30%) and with a goal to have at least 1 woman on shortlists.
Culture and mindset:
Official Sponsorship of International Women’s Day 2021 to promote internally and externally women as priority and the opportunities we provide.
Employer branding:

This initiative was awarded the 2019 Group Human Resources Awards (by DPDHL Group).
