Company Description: Buy From A Black Woman is a 501(c)3 that ensures that Black Women Business Owners have the tools and resources they need to be successful. Through educational programs, an online directory, and financial support, this trusted resource for Black Women in business is quickly becoming the largest community of Black Women Business Owners in the world.

    Black Women lead the numbers when it comes to starting a business, but annual sales for Black Women Business Owners are five times smaller than all women-owned businesses due to lack of support and awareness. That’s where Buy from a Black Woman comes in: Since 2016, we have empowered, educated, and inspired Black Women Entrepreneurs and the people who support them. 

    We do so by providing the best tools and resources to help start, build and sustain Black Women Business Owners. We offer micro loans, scholarships and grants to help them take their ideas to the next level. We advocate for Black Women at the policy, retail and consumer level. And we also inspire others to support and buy from Black Women by connecting them to major retail partners, amplifying their visibility through our online directory and educating consumers on ways to support them sustainably.

    Over the last 12 months, we’ve helped 600+ Black Women Founders boost their online visibility; put 52 Black Women-Owned brands on H&M shelves across the country; driven $2.7 Million+ in revenue; awarded 45 grants and 24 hardship relief stipends, and more.

    Buy From A Black Woman has built the highest-ranking online directory of Black Women-Owned Brands in the world, helped Black Women Business Owners drive $2.7 Million+ in revenue, and grown their online community to an engaged group of over 200,000 supporters, partners and allies. The nonprofit has also secured partnerships with major brands like H&M, PayPal, Masterclass and other organizations dedicated to community development.

    Since 2021, the organization has hosted 100+ workshops and trainings; put 80+ Black Women-Owned brands on H&M shelves across the country; earned 70+ media mentions on major platforms like Forbes, The New York Times and Essence; celebrated 53 Black Women at the Buy From A Black Woman Business Awards; awarded 45 business grants; helped 33 Black women elevate their businesses through accelerator programs; supported 24 business owners through hardship with a Relief Fund stipend; helped 16 founders get their MBE certifications; collaborated with five brands to produce limited edition products; and directed and produced a docuseries that highlights 24 founders.

    The work that we do through Buy From A Black Woman has undeniable results, yet an impact beyond what we can measure. Especially when you consider the fact that we’ve helped these Black Women who are building legacies keep striving for financial freedom despite the pandemic, recession and barriers they face due to systematic racism and gender bias

    Buy From A Black Woman’s online directory is revolutionizing the ecommerce industry by providing a platform that amplifies the visibility and accessibility of Black Women-Owned Brands. The directory addresses systemic inequalities, promotes economic empowerment, fosters community, advocates for diversity and inclusion, and encourages social impact. 

    The impact of the directory and BFABW’s other efforts on local communities has inspired global giants like H&M to partner with them for multi-city shopping events like The Inspire Tour and The Holiday Market, which showcase Black Women Entrepreneurs in local communities. This has served as a model for other retailers, who have since adopted this approach to showcasing Black brands.

    Because of the grassroots work that BFABW has been faithfully doing, supporters overwhelmingly attend their events and vendors sell out, which has enabled many of them to expand their businesses and become full-time entrepreneurs, and allowed some to scale to six-figure businesses.

    These success stories are reshaping the narrative around Black businesses and how to support them in a meaningful, sustainable way long term. And the media attention BFABW has earned because of their impact is inspiring future generations and creating role models for aspiring Black entrepreneurs and leaders.
