Dr. Elizabeth Xu is a well-respected and influential woman in the industry and is often referred to as Chief Motivation Officer by her team. Cutting edge technology excites her and building successful companies, outstanding products and talented teams are among her deepest passions.

As CTO and Global VP of Engineering for BMC Software, Elizabeth is in charge of global engineering for the service support business. BMC, with more than 6,000 employees and 2.2 billion in revenue delivers mission critical business software that leading firms such as Google, Bank of America, eBay, Bank of China, Unilever and others use to run their business. At BMC, Elizabeth has been the change agent and leader driving technology and cultural transformations across the corporation.

Elizabeth is not only excited about building a successful business but she is also passionate about mentoring and helping with others’ careers. She is especially passionate about promoting women in technology. She thrives on bringing the women, not only within the company, but also outside the company together by hosting a series of events such as the Women in Technology group within BMC, is hosting the Girl Geek Dinner at BMC and is utilizing her Stanford leadership class material to develop and host BMC Women In Technology webinars.

In addition to her work with BMC, Elizabeth has invested in and advises several successful startup companies included Andyroid and PipaHR. Her business acumen, connections, investment and deep technical expertise in these cutting edge technologies are vital to these startup’s rapid growth. On top of mentoring her portfolio companies, she is an executive mentor for several entrepreneurs clubs and organizations such as Executive and Entrepreneur Club and Stanford University Technical Career Club; she frequently give talks on investment, leadership, startup operation as well as big data technology and industry trends.

Elizabeth was recently the Keynote at the Alibaba Data Conference and recognized as the “Queen of Big Data.” Silicon Valley Business Journal named her a Women of Influence in 2015. She is also an ambassador to the Asian American community, recognized the World Journal, Sina, Wells Fargo and Times of India for her achievements in the Asian American community.

Elizabeth also commits much of her time to mentoring high-tech professionals, mid-career leaders, young adults, and K-12 students. She covers a wide array of topics including self-development, career advancement and technology topics such as Big Data Science. Her philosophy on life revolves around four L’s to live by:

Dr. Elizabeth Xu is CTO and Global VP of Engineering for service and support at BMC Software. She has been a vital force in building next-generation software products and mobile applications and is a savvy business and technical leader with 15+ years experience in software-as-a-service, big data and mobile enterprise software.

She is an experienced lecturer, mentor, columnist and motivational speaker. She has previously driven global engineering teams at Acxiom, Rearden Commerce, RMS and Vitria.

Elizabeth has earned two Master’s degrees in Environmental Science and Computer Science and a PhD in Atmospheric Science. She also teaches at Stanford and has written the book, Myths of the Promotion – 10 Steps to a Successful Career.
