Nomination Title: Dr. Christina Lampe-Onnerud, Founder and CEO, Boston-Power, Inc.

1. Describe for the judges the activities and accomplishments of the nominated entrepreneur during the eligibility period (up to 500 words):

Dr. Christina Lampe-Onnerud is the Founder and CEO of Boston-Power, Inc., a
provider of next-generation lithium-ion batteries for notebook computers. The
company has taken the lithium-ion battery technology the market knows today to
the next level by establishing a new benchmark in safety, cycle life,
performance and environmental responsibility with the company’s first product,
Sonata.

The company has garnered strong interest from the leading notebook computer
manufacturers, including HP, and is currently working closely with HP as well as
other top OEMs.

In December of 2007, Dr. Lampe-Onnerud helped raise $45 million in Series C
venture funding, bringing total investment in Boston-Power to $70 million. The
round was the largest venture investment in Massachusetts in 2007 and one of the
largest in New England.

Also in December, Dr. Lampe-Onnerud and Boston-Power announced a partnership
with GP Batteries, the number one battery manufacturer in Asia outside Japan and
the tenth largest battery manufacturer in the world. This manufacturing
partnership brought Boston-Power into mass production. The company expects to
scale production from several hundred thousand cells per month to more than a
million per month by December 2008 and plans to come to market in 2008.

Dr. Lampe-Onnerud was recognized with a number of honors and achievements in the
past year, perhaps most notably being named one of only 15 innovators (and the
only one named specifically in the energy sector) for EDN’s June 26th Innovators
2008 issue. Additionally, Dr. Lampe-Onnerud was awarded the Ernst & Young
Entrepreneur of the Year Finalist award in 2008, as well as in 2007.

Boston-Power was named the overall winner of the Northeast USA Top Private 100
Companies list put out by AlwaysOn. The company was also named to the U.S. Red
Herring North America 100 list in 2008.

Dr. Lampe-Onnerud and Boston-Power desire to bring a safer, longer-lasting and
environmentally friendly battery to market for notebook computers. Specific to
the environment, Sonata is the first and only rechargeable Lithium-ion notebook
computer battery in the world to earn the prestigious, internationally respected
Nordic Ecolabel certification. In addition, the company also received a similar
certification by the China Environmental Protection Agency for high
environmental sustainability standards and responsibility regarding the
company’s efforts in efficient manufacturing operations.

Personally, Dr. Lampe-Onnerud has participated in multiple environmental
conferences in the past year. Most recently, Dr. Lampe-Onnerud was one of 100
influential leaders invited to Oslo, Norway for “Climate Conference 08:
Technology and Finance in Climate Cooperation,” a precursor to the post-Kyoto
Protocol in Copenhagen 2009. (Boston-Power was the only U.S.-based startup
invited to the conference.)

Dr. Lampe-Onnerud was also invited by China’s EPA to participate in the
“International Conference on Sustainable Consumption, Eco-labeling and Green
Procurement” in Beijing in June.
