  3. Briefly describe the nominated individual: history and past performance (up to 200 words):

    Dr. Asha Parekh is a biomedical engineer and Co-Founder and CEO of Front Line Medical Technologies Inc, a leader in innovative medical devices for trauma and emergency care.

    Her career began with the distinct desire to help those in need, which drove her to explore engineering and medical device innovation and commercialization to create real world impact. Dr. Parekh obtained her PhD in Biomedical Engineering from Western University, followed by two post-doctoral fellowships, in Medical Innovation and Clinical Neurological Sciences.

    Dr. Parekh co-invented the COBRA-OS®, a life-saving technology that helps critical patients survive and brought it from concept to market. Under her leadership, Dr. Parekh and her team successfully obtained FDA and Health Canada approvals and started to help save lives in North America, and the company has since grown substantially. The COBRA-OS® has saved thousands of lives to-date and has proven to be an invaluable tool in critical trauma situations, such as on the military battlefield and in instances of postpartum hemorrhage.

    Dr. Parekh is also active in various communities dedicated to Women in Business, Women in Engineering and STEM, with the goal of furthering industry advancements and promoting women’s empowerment.

    Dr. Parekh’s leadership has enabled the company to grow significantly since July 1, 2022. Deeper market penetration within North America has been realized with consistent growth, as the COBRA-OS® continues to gain momentum with both existing and new customers. 

    Furthermore, of high significance, Dr. Parekh has led her company to expand on a global scale beyond North America, to Europe and beyond within this time. Obtaining CE marking to enter the European market was a massive undertaking and achievement, one that Dr. Parekh and her team are extremely proud of. 

    Through the pairing of her business acumen and her vast knowledge of the medtech industry, Dr. Parekh had to ensure that the company foundation was grounded and could support growth to help serve their mission of helping critical patients survive globally. She successfully fundraised and secured investments accordingly to support the company growth.

    The Front Line team is extremely passionate, and Dr. Parekh prides herself on fostering a healthy company culture and enabling the incredible teamwork that they are able to perform. This is clearly demonstrated by all their successful achievements, and further substantial growth is anticipated for the future.

    Dr. Parekh’s achievements are exceptional on multiple levels. Firstly, in the unique specifications around the COBRA-OS®, the device which she co-invented and brought to fruition – it is the smallest aortic occlusion device on the market today and simply put, is safe, simple and fast. It is also cost effective in comparison to alternatives, which helps with increasing adoption and thereby touching more lives, a business decision that was made by Dr. Parekh and her team.

    Previous players in the space have not been able to achieve the rapid market entry and progress that Front Line has experienced. The increasing growth and the tremendous amount of customer feedback on the value of the COBRA-OS® has been indicative of the game-changing nature of the device.  

    The COBRA-OS® is also the first of its kind to be approved through the new European MDR regulatory approval system. For Front Line to be able to undertake this large of a project at an early stage is also telling of its strength in comparison to others.

    Dr. Parekh’s past performance is rooted in innovation and invention, then stemmed into successfully fundraising for a startup, creating a med tech company, gaining regulatory approvals, market entry, product-market fit realization, revenue generation, and is now expanding her company globally and helping to save lives around the world. As the global availability of the device continues to expand and with it the level of adoption by medical professionals, her ability to save more lives is made possible.
