Nomination Title: Jen Berson
Jen Berson is President and founder of Jeneration PR, serving clients in the beauty and baby industries, and the creator of Profitable PR Pros, a community and comprehensive suite of training programs & resources for PR pros to find their path to success.
Berson led the creation of multiple educational programs to serve PR professionals at every stage in their careers, from beginners looking to learn the fundamentals of pitching the media, to seasoned pros aiming to scale their agency to seven figures. Her programs help PR pros hone their skills to become a Pitching Powerhouse, bring in their first paying clients, then launch, grow and scale their own PR Agency.
Through her Profitable PR Pros community, Jen has served thousands of professionals throughout the world -- from the US to Australia, Denmark, South Korea, Sweden, and even a member running her firm from a boat off the coast of the Azores Islands, all using the skills she has learned from Jen’s programs. Jen has helped PR professionals create businesses to support their families and desired lifestyles by sharing the step-by-step for success, providing needed tools and frameworks, and changing the PR-industry norm of keeping secrets close to the vest.
At the onset of COVID-19, Jen saw a need from her community for leadership & a game plan. Within days of the lockdown, she shared a hub of high-quality, free training and resources to help PR professionals navigate the uncertainties ahead. Leveraging an extensive network of experts, she provided in-depth training on several topics, like crisis communications and navigating the current social media landscape.
Additionally, Jen provided Pr Pros with free tools, like client communication templates, and a media database with outlets currently seeking stories and sources. This was especially powerful when the media landscape transformed seemingly overnight, and PR professionals were left wondering how to best serve their clients and media contacts.
Recently, she launched a membership community, The Pitch Lab, offering PR professionals a new way to educate themselves and progress through their careers. The program was in direct response to the job loss and uncertain job market that many professionals faced. It provides cost-effective, accessible training on the industry’s most sought-after and profitable service--media relations. It also includes a new, comprehensive monthly Execution Plan, with over 45 pages of ideas for timely and relevant pitch angles across a wide range of niches.
Through her programs and community, Jen has supported nearly 2,500 publicists around the world, earning her recognition as a Top Mentor to PR Professionals by PR News (2021) and Ragan’s PR Daily (2020).
Jen’s accomplishments are especially significant because she’s providing another path for training and education beyond rising through the ranks in a corporate career or traditional agency that previously did not exist. Her programs provide an alternative that helps PR professionals take back the power in their careers by learning a highly valuable skill that clients are willing to invest in.
Unique to others in the industry, her programs have gone against the industry norm of keeping trade secrets close to the vest. She not only shares free weekly training sessions that answer her community’s top questions, but in her educational programs, she shares her own roadmap for success in creating a business that’s allowed her to have a successful career while also being a present parent to her young family.
Jen is a former civil litigation attorney and left her career in law to start Jeneration PR 16 years ago, with no experience or media contacts. She strategically built her business to support the kind of work/life integration she wanted when she became a mom, and is committed to teaching others how to do the same.
Jen successfully launched these new programs to support the PR community during the height of the pandemic, when she was homeschooling her sons, one who is on the autism spectrum. She is committed to showing others what is possible by highlighting the successes of her members at all stages in their careers, creating a collaborative community that is invested in each others’ success.
