Nomination Title: Patty Arvielo

Patty Arvielo has spent her 40-year mortgage career focusing on empowering herself and others through her passion for the industry and her vast and varied experiences. Arvielo went from an entry level position at age 16 to eventually co-founding New American Funding with her husband Rick in 2003. Eighteen years later, Arvielo leads the largest Latina and woman-owned mortgage company in the nation.

As President, Arvielo manages the sales and operations for a company with over 4,800 employees, 179 nationwide locations, and a servicing portfolio of over 201,000 loans for approximately $52.5 billion.

The company is one of the largest privately held retail lenders to Hispanics, Blacks, and women.

A first-generation Hispanic American, Arvielo is dedicated to empowering minorities and women through homeownership and within her company via professional mentorship.

To foster and advance employee growth, Patty personally leads two hands-on mentorship programs, “If You Want to Grow, We Want to Know” and “Thrive and Lead,” in which she welcomes a diverse talent pool to various opportunities for career growth and potential advancement.

Arvielo has also invested prominently in Hispanic businesses and is a member of the Executive Board of Big Brothers Big Sisters (BBBS) of Orange County.

As President of New American Funding, Arvielo works tirelessly to support her teams.

Under her leadership, an extensive Loan Officer/Processor training program evolves to fit employees’ needs. The program prepares prospective candidates—many with little to no previous experience—for a mortgage career.

Arvielo’s quarterly mentorship program, “Thrive and Lead,” provides employees and external mortgage professionals intensive mentoring. From Nov. 2019 to Jan. 2021, she personally mentored 147 people, an average of 29 per session.

Her “If You Want to Grow, We Want to Know” mentorship program allows employees to openly share their goals and aspirations for potential advancement within the company.

Additionally, Arvielo recently launched her “360 Mentorship Program,” which matches an internal leader with an employee who is pursuing career advancement.

During the pandemic, the company created informative “Work from Home Life” videos under Arvielo’s direction that showed employees and executives balancing their new life and career adjustment. Arvielo offers additional guidance to her employees through her periodic “Get Real with Patty Arvielo” online events, which seek to uplift women. Her “Take Five with Patty Arvielo,” an on-going video series, provides employees with company updates and inspiring tips.

Through the company’s intranet, Loan Officers at New American Funding are able to access “Coaching for You,” which provides them trusted first-hand experiences/solutions from industry-leading top producers.

Arvielo has also invested prominently inHispanic women-owned businesses. These include #WeAllGrow Latina, a sisterhood of thriving Latina creators, makers, and entrepreneurs, and Encantos, an award-winning educational technology company teaching children bilingual skills.

Arvielo has broken through many barriers in her career, most notably as a Hispanic woman in a male-dominated industry to become the President and co-owner of the largest woman/Hispanic-owned mortgage company.

She also has the unique experience of climbing the industry ladder from its lowest, entry-level rung to eventually be in position to champion women, minorities, and Millennials, who comprise 60%, 45%, and 38% of the company’s workforce.

These experiences enable Arvielo’s message of hard work, belief in yourself, and the will/vision to succeed to resonate with her mentees.

As a hands-on President, she offers each participant in her mentorship programs a personalized path for potential advancement and skill growth.

Arvielo also doesn’t limit a cherished space in her “Thrive and Lead” to just her employees. Other industry professionals outside the company are welcome to participate. And even if it’s been a year after the program, mentees can email her and ask for mentorship.

With her “If You Want to Grow We Want to Know” program, Arvielo seeks to understand each candidate individually by identifying the position they’d like to attain, how they look to do it, what transferrable skills they possess, and their areas of interest.

In Arvielo’s company, women have made tremendous strides.
