Nomination Title: "It's in the DNA"

Tell the story about what this nominated department achieved since the beginning of July last year (up to 500 words). Focus on specific accomplishments, and relate these accomplishments to past performance or industry norms. Be sure to mention obstacles overcome, innovations or discoveries made, and outcomes:

Paycom is a company that has quietly become a prominent force in the payroll
and HR services field.; The company’s 12 month revenue will be more than $40
million, with about $6 million in profit and virtually no debt.; Its annual
revenue growth is currently booked at $25 million per year stemming from its
highly educated and service-oriented sales force.; So far, the company
currently processes payroll for almost 8,000 midsized and large businesses and
adds about 500 customers each month.; And all of this success originates from
a first contact with Paycom’s hand-picked and well-trained sales force.;;;

Paycom’s sales success starts from the simple task of finding just the right
candidate for the job.; Company leaders refer to it as the “DNA” of the
company.; It starts with a zealous search for a person with an impeccable
pedigree.; A person must:
•possess a college degree with a minimum GPA,
•be in the top 20 percent in sales and at least 2 years with prior company(s),
•and must have excellent credit.;

Once the candidate passes the initial review, they are put through a grueling
series of interviews and tests.; And while the process can be intense and
fraught with heavy pressure, the intent is to identify those individuals that
are representative of Paycom’s reputation for being extremely bright, helpful
and ambitious.;

The sales person sells the service, trains the customer and runs their first
payroll.; After that, they ensure there is a seamless transition to a
dedicated payroll specialist leaving them free to pursue new clients. That’s
why the sales team is such a key component of the company’s growth and
explains why the selection process is a precise series of tests and
interviews.; Here are the people and order of how the interview process
works:;
•Hiring Manager – Initial interviews are conducted along with prospecting
sessions wherein they actually pursue new Paycom business.;
•Division Executive – Only about half of the original candidate pool returns
to conduct the second interview at this level.;;;;;;
•Executive Vice President of Sales - If the interview goes well with the
divisional staff, each candidate meets directly with the company’s only EVP of
sales.;;;
•CEO – Remaining candidates meet with the Paycom CEO for the final
selection.;;;
In the end, only one out of every ten candidates actually lands a job as a
Paycom sales representative.; Does this intense process lead to success?;
Yes.; Paycom’s average first-year salesperson will sell the equivalent of what
a competing organization’s representative might sell in three to four
years.;;;

The result of this intense process is a sales force that delivers.; For this
year, despite the troubled economy, the Paycom sales team is currently
outproducing its 2008 sales by 40 percent including a 400 percent growth rate
in three key markets.; It has also expanded its physical footprint with 5 new
sales offices that are producing double the projected sales rate after just 9
months.; All of this while maintaining a customer retention rate at a market-
high of 99 percent.
