Automotive industry entry:

In 2008-2009, NNG realized that a change in strategy was needed to remain a leader in navigation. The company shifted away from the shrinking Personal Navigation Device (PND) market towards the automotive industry. In the past, automotive navigation solutions were only available in high-end cars for buyers who could afford to pay several thousand dollars for a head-unit with onboard navigation. Breaking the mold, NNG introduced a revolutionary strategy to the industry: low cost and ultra low cost software solutions that would enable Navigation for All.

The first cars with NNG’s iGO Navigation were shipped to Europe and North America in 2011. Since then, NNG has delivered navigation solutions for over 30 car brands. NNG currently delivers its software to 7 out of the top 10 global car makers. Outperforming old and rigid industry competitors, NNG is now the market leader for affordable factory-fit navigation, helping over 20 million people reach their destinations daily.

Growth in 2012-2013:

NNG’s global automotive business has almost doubled in 2013 compared to 2012. The European automotive gross margin shows a growth of 62% compared to 2012. As a result of this rapid growth, NNG’s Budapest headquarters expanded from 400 employees in 2012 to 520 in 2013. As of 2014, that number totals 678, out of which more than 80% work in software engineering. Serving the most prestigious car brands in the world and hiring the best programmers in Eastern Europe, NNG has become the IT icon of Hungary. New offices in the U.S., India, China, and Japan help spread the reputation of NNG and support the local and global needs of its partners.

Why NNG:

NNG’s vision is to make navigation ubiquitous, even in entry-level cars. To change industry standards, the rules also had to be changed: NNG developed navigation systems under 500 USD through a more agile development process, an expanded world coverage that made navigation truly global (currently 192 countries), and localized software solutions that run on a single navigation engine all around the world.

In the last few years NNG’s goal of Navigation for All has caused a snowball effect in the industry. Growing customer demand for onboard navigation across all vehicle segments has convinced more and more car manufacturers to ship pre-installed navigation with their new models. By initiating this trend, NNG has generated rapid and steady growth in the global automotive navigation industry.

Product marketing:

In June 2013 NNG proved once again that it is capable of innovative solutions that push the industry into the future: NNG introduced NavFusion, an add-on feature for iGO Navigation, which integrates the driver’s smartphone into the car. The new technology solves the connectivity and map update issues which have been major challenges for both car makers and customers for many years. Industry leaders have applauded the approach. The first car models with NavFusion will enter the global market in early 2015.
