In order to shine a light on the dire state of things in Donetsk and Luhansk regions one year after Russia started its war with Ukraine, Rudaw Media Network made a video. The Rudaw team takes us through these war-ravaged areas, capturing the reality of deserted streets, mass destruction and people who have endured relentless conflict for over twelve months. The video’s aim is to paint a vivid picture of the human and material costs of this war, showing over 40,000 buildings collapsed as well as over 7,000 civilian deaths according to the UN report. Moreover it highlights strategic shifts in territorial control with Russian troops now having about 96% of Luhansk region and substantial parts of southern Ukraine under their control. However, despite all odds this video underscores Ukraine’s unyielding opposition to Russian aggression and refusal to negotiate. So far, the video has successfully raised awareness about ongoing humanitarian crisis among international community resulting into enhanced understanding of how this conflict affected Ukrainian society.
