Öksüt Madencilik operates a world-class gold mine in the Develi district of southern Kayseri that was established with an investment of $221 million, employing 1200 people.

In mining, which is seen as a male-dominated sector, while the sector average of female employees is 7-8%, this rate is 15% at Öksüt, rising to 33% at the executive level.

With its ‘sustainable mining’ approach and  the awareness of the important role of mines in regional development, the company carries out inclusive projects that appeal to all segments of society.

‘Projects with Women as the Subject’ is one of the most important of these projects, which are handled with a ‘people and environment first’ approach.  Within the scope of the project; with the support given to the women's cooperative in Develi, which was implemented with the cooperation of Kayseri Governorship, Develi District Governorship and Develi Municipality, the Production Facility and Gacer Café, where foodstuffs such as vegetables, fruits, home cooking, bakery products, dairy products grown with natural methods and handicraft products are offered for sale under hygienic conditions, started their activities.

Women from Develi carry out production, storage, cafeteria and retail activities in this 300 m² area spread over 2 floors. The women working at the facility named the facility's cafeteria Gacer Cafe, based on the products they made with the heirloom Gacer wheat flour, which is identified with Develi.

  5. If you are providing written answers to the questions for this category, you must answer this third question: Describe the development of the campaign or program: the planning process, the goal setting, the creative and media development, the scheduling, etc. (up to 250 words):

Öksüt Mining supports socio-economic development in the region where it operates, with the awareness of the great role of mines in regional development.

With the awareness that women's participation in working life and taking a more active role in entrepreneurial activities has a "strategic" importance for the developing economy, Öksüt implemented the "Women Producers Development" Project, in which women producers can acquire a profession by improving their individual capacities for hand-made products.

In this way, Öksüt aimed to raise awareness of women in the region, advance their individual and social development and increase their economic income levels.

Develi Women's Enterprise, Production and Business Cooperative, established within the scope of the Women Producers Development Project, was aimed to play a transformative role in women's economic activity.

With the cooperative established in order to ensure the qualifications of women as entrepreneurs by setting an example of supportive practices and increasing their intensity in the region, a big step has been taken with the cooperation of Kayseri Governorship, Develi District Governorship and Develi Municipality in order to make women entrepreneurs an important role model in the economy with a permanent production and marketing approach in growing the regional/local economy, increasing employment.

  6. If you are providing written answers to the questions for this category, you must answer this fourth question: Outline the activities and concrete results of this campaign or program since the beginning of 2019. Even if your initiative started before 2022, limit your response to activities and results since the beginning of 2022 only (up to 250 words):

    Total 193 words used.

The Develi Women's Initiative Production and Business Cooperative, which started its operations in December 2022, had a total expenditure of TRY3,675,799.84 between January 1st, 2023 and April 30, 2024, while its total income was TRY11,994,251.56.

In the cooperative, where the number of employees is constantly increasing, production and sales activities are carried out with a total of 50 women employees, including 14 active members and those involved in periodic production.

The cooperative, where women producers become role models in the local economy and gain a permanent production and marketing understanding, also supports education by creating internship opportunities for students of Kayseri University's Hüseyin Şahin Vocational School Cookery Programme in the district.

The project has played a transformative role in the economic activity of Develian women. Women who contribute to their home economies have gained a stronger position in the family balance. This has brought not only increased economic prosperity but also social development.

The key factor of the project is to leave a self-sufficient and sustainable structure after Öksüt Mining ceases to operate in the region. And it has already achieved this momentum within 1.5 years.
