VisionTrack, the leading provider of AI video telematics and connected vehicle data, is using increasingly sophisticated AI technologies to transform how transportation fleets protect their drivers, improve safety and mitigate risk. This year, VisionTrack launched NARA (Notification, Analysis and Risk Assessment), a post-analysis solution that is revolutionizing how vehicle camera footage is assessed to help dramatically reduce road deaths and injuries.
The cloud-based NARA is changing how collisions, near misses and driving events are reviewed and monitored by automatically analyzing footage, without the need for human involvement, to:
- Effectively monitor road, driver and fleet risk
- Achieve rapid risk and FNOL intervention.
- Quickly validate driver welfare
- Enhance duty of care commitment
- Support road safety and driver training strategies
- Conclude fault claims settlements within 24 hours.
- Deliver claims savings ($2,500 on average) for each collision detected.
For transportation fleets using video telematics, it is not unusual for each vehicle to trigger over 10 collision alerts and video uploads a month, most of which will be false positives generated by harsh driving, potholes or speed humps. This means that manual review of footage is not scalable for most medium and large fleets, when triggered video uploads can exceed hundreds per day. Due to the size/weight of trucks, connected camera g-force settings are highly sensitive to detect an incident, resulting in large levels of generated events data.
NARA represents a huge step forward for video telematics as it uses ground-breaking computer vision models with sensor fusion to assess footage. This ensures the review process is manageable and timely, while eliminating human availability or error, so transportation fleets can make best use of video telematics insight to better protect road users and help prevent collisions.
Advanced object recognition takes advantage of deep learning algorithms to identify vehicles, cyclists, pedestrians and road signs/traffic lights (accuracy levels already exceed 99.0%). It takes eight seconds to distinguish between collisions, near misses, and false positives. The software also includes Occupant Safety Rating that uses a range of parameters to calculate the probability of injury and immediately identify if a driver needs assistance.

During testing, it was found a 1,100-strong logistics fleet was generating over 8,500 priority videos a month, which would typically take someone almost 35 hours to review. NARA reduced the number of events that require human validation to around 50 a month, making it possible to check in under 15 minutes.
The same fleet generated over 12,300 priority videos in February 2023, previously needing 51 hours to review. Using NARA, the events needing human validation and intervention reduced to 15, making it possible to check in just 4 minutes. The software also detected 400 near misses with other vehicles and 90 near misses with vulnerable road users, which is supporting the company’s road safety and risk reduction strategy.
250 fleets, covering more than 10,000 commercial vehicles, are already using NARA. This includes significant UK fleet operations that took part in a successful pilot scheme prior to full launch (two have since rolled out the solution to over 500 and 1,250 vehicles respectively). As NARA is unique technology and an industry first, many of the current users are in the trial phase, but based on initial results, VisionTrack is expecting rapid uptake and is already in discussions with businesses operating a combined total of 270,000 vehicles.
