Sweet Peanuts is a nonprofit Social Enterprise that educates and enables friends and family to provide care and support to bereaved parents that have had a miscarriage or pregnancy loss. From the sale of our care packages, we are able fund and donate care packages to our partnered hospitals and clinics. These packages are then passed on to bereaved women and couples who are currently experiencing a miscarriage. Making the connection and filling one of the many gaps in support between grieving parents and much needed support. All our package items are sourced from small and local Australian businesses that share our passion for sustainability and changing the conversation around miscarriage. We have donated packages to hospitals in metro, regional, and remote communities in Queensland, Australia. We have donated over $2,000AUD to communities in Caboolture, Mount Isa, Longreach, and Logan. From our connection and donation, we have had positive and supportive feedback from the healthcare professionals who have passed our packages on to bereaved parents.

In 2021, Sweet Peanuts was granted startup seed funding as part of the Youth Action Project Grant Scheme. This increased the overall startup capital for Sweet Peanuts in its first year by $900 and allowed it to fund the first packages for donation. Sweet Peanuts has increased its connections with the community through outreach and donation in the past two years. We have supported over 25 bereaved parents and families through our packages and have been commended by healthcare professionals for our efforts. Sweet Peanuts has also been recognised by the community, by local members in Australian Parliament, and through a number of national and international accolades. Last year, we announced a collaboration with another charitable social enterprise, TradeMutt and the artist Bobbi Lockyer to raise awareness of miscarriage and pregnancy loss. The custom design by Bobbi will be made into a yellow hi-vis, a short sleeve shirt, and the first ever TradeMutt scrub top. Since opening pre-orders, we have received orders from every state in Australia and sold nearly $20,000 of limited edition shirts and scrub tops. This collaboration has built brand awareness for our organisation and connected with healthcare professionals across the country. We will build on these relationships to create further impact for bereaved families and healthcare workers. We have also been nominated by the local community to be involved with support initiatives such as the ‘Share the Love’ initiative run by Mango Hill Marketplace, the Commbank community donation program, and the Westfield Local Heroes initiative.

  5. If you are providing written answers for your submission, you must provide an answer to this third question: Explain why the achievements you have highlighted are unique or significant. The initial seed funding allowed the organisation to test its delivery through hospitals and gain feedback from the healthcare professionals. Feedback encouraged us to make changes to packaging and included more information for the hospitals to distribute with the community. We have been able to support more parents through not only reinvesting profits, but also allowing customers to ‘pay it forward’ by sponsoring a package that is donated on their behalf. We have been able to fund and donate 11 packages through this option and acknowledge the generosity through the card that is supplied with the package. In an address to Parliament, our organisation was recognised by our local member as a local group that is supporting bereaved parents. Our organisation and the founder have been named as a finalist in 10 business awards in 2022, and a further three business awards in 2023. To continue our collaboration with organisations and to encourage more conversations with bereaved partners and fathers, we decided to partner with the colourful workwear brand, TradeMutt. TradeMutt is a workwear brand that makes colourful, eye-catching designed workwear and 50% of their profits are donated to their charity TIACS (This is a conversation starter). TIACS provides free mental health support for tradies, truckies, blue collar, and rural workers. The custom design was gifted by Bobbi Lockyer who shares her own story of loss through her artwork, this provides a level of inclusion and recognition for those who identify as indigenous who have also experienced this loss.
