    Northern Area Well Completion Operation Department (NAWCOD) is responsible for rigless well intervention operations for Saudi Northern Area gas, oil and water wells that are scattered in various locations. NAWCOD does not only deal with wide geographical area but also has diversified portfolios of operations both onshore & offshore. The department manages its roles and responsibilities through five distinct divisions which provide day-to-day planning, execution and support for well-intervention operations including jobs such as stimulation, fracturing, testing, pumping, and logging.

    The Northern Area active fields have over 3450 wells (57% of which are offshore and 43% onshore). The Department is also responsible for maintaining several remote areas wells scattered in over more than 2000km from Arabian Gulf to the offshore Red sea.

    NAWCOD’s vision is to “To be a leading organization well intervention and well service operations”. While its mission is “To conduct rig-less well intervention safely in a cost effective and an environmentally friendly manner, with efficient planning and execution aligned with best-in-class operational excellence practices and technologies, while developing and retaining competent workforce”.

    NAWCOD has +450 employees along with +10 notional and international operational partners and service providers to run the rigless well intervention business 24/7/365.

    Upon methodic and proper implementation of NAWCOD HSE model and program, following results were achieved in 2022: 

    The organization has maintained its clear HSE record with zero HSE incidents where +4900 rigless well intervention operations have been conducted scattered remote areas and offshore locations.  The level of operations involves +450 employees, 11 offshore barges, 6 completion trucks, 9 onshore sites, and +10 operational partners. Nevertheless, the organization has been able to achieve the following milestones:

    • Over 1.61 Million safe man-hours worked in onshore and offshore with ZERO Medical, Restricted Duty, or Loss Time Injuries
    • +1.28 Million KM driven and 3900 journeys logged with neither a single traffic violation nor a registered accident.

    • Full compliance with HazCom requirements with zero OHHA findings.
    • + 1900 Work Permits (WP) with ZERO WP Infractions as per WP Committee Audits.

    Aside from that, NAWCOD has stepped forward to take the lead and drive the HSE innovation momentum for the rigless intervention through the following pipelines:

    Although the organization is running a complex scope of operation with a wide range of challenges in terms of technicalities, logistics (onshore/offshore), competency, and risks, this has not hindered the organization from surpassing its peers. To illustrate, NAWCOD’s HSE journey has been recognized both regionally and internationally for the true demonstration of HSE impacts made in the O&G intervention industry. Examples of organization’s received awards include:

    2. Aramco Safety President Award for Best Safety Performance during 2022.
