Genesis
PT Bank Central Asia Tbk. (BCA) is the biggest private bank in Indonesia. As the biggest private financial institution in Indonesia, BCA plays a big role in the revival of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs).
MSMEs are one of the foundations of the national economy, with the proportion 99% of all existing business units. MSMEs have contributed to Gross Domestic Product (GDP) of 61.07% (9,580 trillion) and were able to absorb 96.9% of the workforce (117 million).
During pandemic in 2020, business lines are advised to move digitally to shield productivity during large-scale social restrictions. However, only 27% of MSMEs used digital ecosystem and utilized e-commerce. This concern ignites BCA to hold UMKM Fest (or Festival for MSMEs) pilot program in 2021 and nationwide in 2022 and 2023.
Goals
BCA’s UMKM Fest aims to provide MSMEs added value to be competitive with the latest market needs, especially with changes of transactions strategy during and after the pandemic era. There are three pillars of support on how BCA assists MSMEs:
1. Coaching & Mentoring
- Providing participants with a place to expand marketing through digital platforms,
- Giving discount promotions to increase participants’ transaction sales volume,
- Mentoring through webinars/seminars on procedures on marketing strategies.
2. Accessibility & Exposure
- Business Matching: Collaborating with the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia, Consulate General of the Republic of Indonesia, International Trade Promotion Center, and Correspondent Banks to present potential buyers from various countries,
- Campaign Marketing: BCA exposed participants to advertising by BCA,
- Holding offline events so that there is amplification of the online event (BCA Expoversary, BCA Bangga Lokal (or Local Proud))
3. Business solutions
- Facilitating participants with QR digital transaction solutions,
- Providing financing products for business development
Development
In the development of UMKM Fest 2023, BCA considered some aspects, such as:
- Curation phase (Feb-Apr): Selecting local MSMEs of product categories art, fashion, health and beauty, food and beverage
- Coaching invitation and the after events (Sep-Nov)
- Collaborated with e-commerce platforms and ride hailing to onboard MSMEs to sell their product online through BCA UMKM Fest Online Event (Aug – Sep)
- Invited some sellers to offline exhibition event in one shopping center in Jakarta (Aug)
- Assisted sellers and invited them to the other BCA’s event to widen their exposure
Results
- Since 2022, 2000 MSMEs participated in BCA’s UMKM Fest; 45% of them witnessed an increase in funds and transactions; and 23% were successfully provided business financing.
