    Written answers to the questions
  2. If you are submitting a video of up to five (5) minutes in length, provide the URL of the nominated video here, OR attach it to your entry via the "Add Attachments, Videos, or Links to This Entry" link above, through which you may also upload a copy of your video.

  3. If you are providing written answers for your submission, you must provide an answer to this first question: If this is a brand-new product, state the date on which it was released. If this is a new version of an existing product, state the date on which the update was released:

Porotech announced the world’s first demonstration of an ‘all-in-one’ full-colour display of microLED pixels on 11 October 2022. This unique innovation is driven by Porotech’s proprietary DynamicPixelTuning® (DPT®) technology that allows a single pixel to display the full colour spectrum.

  4. If you are providing written answers for your submission, you must provide an answer to this second question: Describe the features, functions, and benefits of the nominated product or service (up to 350 words):

    Total 313 words used.

Porotech’s disruptive DPT technology is set to revolutionise the display industry. While traditional microLED displays are made up of separate red, green and blue (RGB) sub-pixels in order to display full colour, DPT technology allows a single microLED pixel to display any colour in the visible spectrum - including bright white.

In traditional microLED displays, red sub-pixels are currently made with a different material to green and blue, creating a complicated supply chain - with high levels of wastage and inefficiencies. However, Porotech has harnessed a new proprietary material, PoroGaN®, which can display any colour on the spectrum. This simplifies and improves the design of the display and optical system and removes major manufacturing roadblocks.

With a monolithic pixel, colours are no longer constrained by the three primary colours, which expands the available range significantly. In addition, by replacing the traditional four sub-pixel format with a single microLED, this technology can increase pixel density of any given display four-fold. This creates substantial improvements in resolution and screen brightness, which is particularly important on small form factor displays, such as wearables and AR/VR headsets. Similarly, a monolithic pixel can also lower costs and produce higher yields for large area displays such as video walls and automotive applications, as it eliminates two mass transfer steps in the manufacturing process.

By using only one type of microLED and with the power to lay out the pixels and other optical elements of the microLED display at the wafer level, a huge scope for better optical design is unlocked. Greater flexibility, simplicity and lower power consumption of the whole optical design can be achieved when DPT is used as the basis for the technology, supporting the production of more sustainable displays. Furthermore, DPT removes the need for mass transfer, reducing the costly wastage involved in microLED production and making DPT a supply chain-ready solution, massively simplifying display manufacture.

  5. If you are providing written answers for your submission, you must provide an answer to this third question: Outline the market performance, critical reception, and customer satisfaction with the product or service to date. State monetary or unit sales figures to date, if possible, and how they compare to expectations or past performance. Provide links to laudatory product or service reviews. Include some customer testimonials, if applicable (up to 350 words):

DPT is a game-changer for the future of microLED displays. Described as‘the most impressive technology at CES’ by display technology expert Karl Guttag, the improvements in resolution, colour, brightness and efficiency could revolutionise consumer technologies like wearables, AR and VR.

The manufacturing benefits afforded by DPT requiring only one material to produce, will solve expensive challenges that major corporate R&D teams have struggled with for years, with companies like Apple, Meta, and Samsung investing considerable resources into achieving a monolithic pixel.

Porotech is currently working with major OEM channel partners that will build DPT technology into their products to sell to consumers. Names of partners are confidential at this point in time. Initial proof of principle projects will then develop into NRE co-developments and eventually IP licensing or manufacturing supply relationships in order to proliferate the technology across multiple applications and worldwide.

Porotech’s DynamicPixelTuning has been celebrated by a number of industry experts:

Karl Guttag, display technology expert, says:

“Porotech has publicly demonstrated at several conferences, as well as to me in their lab, so they are not just some ‘paper tiger.’ The use of a single emitter has multiple major technical advantages. It can have smaller pixels since there is only one emitter, and it can be optically more efficient since the light can emit from a smaller pixel area.”

One of the world’s leading consumer display manufacturers has stated:

“We have tested their technology and measured the highest red efficiency ever of >2% for 500nm size pixels.”

A prominent AR glasses OEM has stated:

“DPT is mass-producible and offers easy optical integration, with the potential to completely remove the existing waveguides.”

  6. You have the option to answer this final question: Reference any attachments of supporting materials throughout this nomination and how they provide evidence of the claims you have made in this nomination (up to 250 words):

The Porotech DynamicPixelTuning® (DPT®) technology allows all colours of the visible spectrum to be emitted from a single microLED diode/pixel. By sequentially pulsing each DPT pixel with different colours, colour mixing can be achieved in order to access an incredibly wide colour gamut, including white.
