The Consumer Electronics Show (CES), an annual event in Las Vegas, is arguably the premiere electronics ecosystem gathering in the world.  It is the epicenter of electronics thought leadership, where major manufacturers in the Automotive, Smart Home and Mobile electronics spaces observe the latest trends, and forge partnerships to secure leading edge technologies. It’s not unusual for top executives from major brands to enter the booth for a tour of NXP’s demos before business discussions.

NXP Semiconductors, a leading provider of semiconductor technology to the consumer space and beyond, aims to bring together bright minds, to create breakthrough technologies that make the world better, safer and more secure. The goal for NXP was to build directly on this vision by creating a best-in-class experience for its customers, partners and the media, encouraging customers to have interactive experiences and even playing with NXP technology. At the same time, the team wanted to maintain its hybrid experience.

After the pandemic years and the limited in-person engagement, the team wanted to harness the benefits of the virtual experiences that they honed through those years by creating a fusion of the real and virtual. This idea would not have been possible without the first-hand experience of developing virtual-only experiences. At the offset of planning, NXP aimed to create its first hybrid NXP exhibit. This idea is unique, and strictly defined means to create a virtual demo with a physical appearance. In this instance the team decided to execute the vision by showcasing its eScooter-Demo, highlighting E-Mobility and compact cars.

The goal for the designers was to transport and treat the participants, whether in-person or virtual, to seamless experiences that were each enriched in their own way. Additionally, it was decided that the exhibit should aim to entertain and delight attendees in person while delivering in-depth and informative content at the virtual level.  Having both experiences was cross-benefitting and enriching to the overall experience.

The virtual possibilities were  explored and implemented in NXP’s Virtual Showroom as 3D animated demos, which could be controlled via the 3D environments on the web as well as on site. Demos like the eScooter were given the power to control the 3D environment with physical interactions. The local interaction was driven via Unity-based software interfaced with an embedded chromium-based browser module that allowed commands and events to pass through and control events in both environments. The result was a truly hybrid experience in a live communication environment.

Overall, the eScooter demo brought a broader ecosystem of electrified solutions to life, solutions that make life simpler, smarter and greener at every step: changing or charging the battery as well as sharing and driving the EV. The demo allowed the participant to see how data is constantly analyzed to improve the efficiency of the vehicle, extend the range and increase the battery lifetime. As part of the future of mobility, the eScooter offers a great experience and performance by adding smart connectivity solutions that connect the two-wheeler to the cloud. It also demonstrates its compliance with industry standards and how it allows for continuous improvement to performance over time with over the air updates.
