Mundo Sano (MS) is a family foundation that has been working since 1993 to reduce the impact of neglected health. Its programs contribute to preventing, controlling, and eliminating diseases such as Chagas, dengue, and geohelminthiasis in the Americas, Europe, and Africa.
To fulfill its mission, MS develops replicable, scalable, and transferable management models through public-private partnerships and engagement with the communities, all grounded in multidisciplinary scientific research. The strategic approach involves monitoring, measuring and evaluating decision-making initiatives in a continuous improvement process.
MS focuses on addressing critical needs where most needed, employing science and innovation for tangible outcomes, and aligns with the strategies of the World Health Organization (WHO) and the Pan American Health Organization, contributing to SDGs 3, 17, 16, 6, 5, and 10.
In addition, MS is part of a wide network of global partners dedicated to fostering cooperation, sharing best practices, and spreading valuable scientific insights to facilitate healthcare access for individuals impacted by neglected diseases. For instance, the foundation has a strategic partnership with the WHO; in 2022, in collaboration with Insud Pharma, it made available the offer to supply of the drug for treating Chagas disease in children around the world.

Not a Single Baby with Chagas Disease
In 2022, Mundo Sano was designated as the Technical Unit of the Ibero-American initiative “Not a Single Baby with Chagas Disease. The path towards new Chagas-free generations”, chaired by Brazil and implemented by the Ministries of Health of 8 countries.
In 2023, the countries decided that the interventions to provide access to diagnosis and treatment will reach 1,256,700 women of childbearing age and 87,800 newborns per year.
Public-private collaboration for mother-and-child health care in the American Chaco
MS implements the ETMI Plus strategy, developed by the PAHO, aiming to help eliminate HIV, syphilis, hepatitis B, and Chagas transmission from mother to child. Actions implemented:
25 operations.
3,900 pregnancy checkups.
2,357 pregnant women evaluated.
95 referrals for obstetric emergencies.
Chagas-LAMP project
LAMP is a next-generation molecular method that allows early diagnosis, at a low cost and with minimal infrastructure requirements. It provides highly sensitive results.
During 2023, the validation stages of the diagnostic methodologies were completed in Argentina, as well as the monitoring and follow-up of the 2,420 recruited mothers and babies.
Prevention of diseases transmitted by the Aedes aegypti mosquito
MS monitors the infestation levels of the mosquito that transmits dengue, Zika and chikungunya fever. 14,110 homes were inspected in Argentina.
Caring for Chagas Network
MS created the Caring for Chagas Network, which is a Global Network for the Promotion of the Diagnosis and Treatment of this disease. It has 360 members from 19 countries.

Many neglected diseases could be prevented, eliminated, or even eradicated through improved access to safe and cost-effective interventions, and Mundo Sano has directly improved healthcare access for over 28,000 individuals and indirectly impacted more than 1,640,000 people since 2017.
Affected individuals worldwide by the neglected diseases targeted by Mundo Sano's initiatives: Soil-transmitted helminthiasis: 1.5 billion people; Chagas disease: 6 to 8 million people affected, and Dengue: 400 million people.
The expertise that MS has gathered in aspects such as the control of vectors that transmit Chagas disease and dengue, and the diagnosis and treatment of Chagas disease are solid bases that support its strategic objectives until 2033. These objectives have also been drawn up based on the analysis of the results of its programs as well as the organization's own capabilities.
The goals include, for example, expanding epidemiological modeling using mathematical analysis and geospatial information to develop risk maps and predictive models of risk dynamics.
The foundation will also intensify its focus on training local health professionals on neglected diseases.
In addition, it will deepen the approach to health from an integral and sociocultural perspective, promoting interaction with diverse disciplines in a systematic and methodological manner.
