During their time together in the Army, CEO Frank Tucker and COO Claude Hines helped introduce electronic health records to the battlefield during the Iraq War. During that time, as acquisition program managers for the DOD, they were frustrated that IT vendors didn't understand how to use technical in a clinical setting, which made the systems they created harder to use in real clinical settings. So, in 2011, the pair founded MicroHealth to put the health back in health IT.

MicroHealth is a Service-Disabled Veteran Owned Small Business and Small Business Administration 8(a) firm. Our 200-person team of healthcare professionals, technologists, and veterans’ partner with agencies to find better ways to use IT to support improved healthcare outcomes for patients. For example, we’re helping the Army use advanced medical simulation capabilities to provide realistic training to over 75,000 medical and non-medical (all combatants) soldiers using direct instruction on the latest battlefield trauma and critical care techniques in a high-stress environment. We helped the DOD integrate medical devices with its new electronic health record system in the National Capital Region. This included procuring, installing, and activating critical medical devices to ensure compliance with compatibility and cyber requirements.

MicroHealth’s revenue rose from $25M in 2019 to $72M in 2023. Similarly, employees rose from 67 in 2019 to 200+ in 2023. This was partly due to our ability to win contracts supporting agencies with a military and veteran cause. In recent years, we’ve been:

    • providing IT, data warehouse, and data processing support for DOD’s Uniformed Services Family Health Plan Designated Provider health care delivery system in support of 150,000+ active duty, guard, retirees, and beneficiaries.

    • assisting the US Department of Veterans Affairs with system integration, devise testing, and evaluation of its EHR test facilities.

    • developing a prototype that enhances medical training specific to Special Operation Forces, which have the unique requirement to perform prolonged field care for up to 72 hours.

    • developed a portable mobile medical simulation training solution, that helps clients who are looking for a quicker fielding of a more customizable solution, anywhere.

    • modernizing Grants.gov, a web application managed by the US HHS, that supports 400+ Federal partners, 5,000+ programs, 900 million users, and over half a trillion dollars in Federal grants.

    • supporting the modernization of HHS’ OPAIS interface, which consolidates steep discounts to assist low-income patients.
