The Makati Central Estate Association (MACEA) marked 50-plus years of its stewardship of the first privately-planned urban development in the Philippines, the Makati Central Business District (CBD).

The challenge was to create a memory project, the first of its kind, since no previous book had heretofore captured the history of this 21st-century city that helped shape a nation. It aimed to create a landmark survey of the district’s past, present, and future and the role MACEA played in its constant evolution; and to make it vital today to its core constituencies. Equally importantly, the book also aimed to raise funds for Makati’s indigent who suffered most from the COVID-19 pandemic.

The book thus chose to tell the story of the CBD through the photo-documentation of its evolving architecture across generations as well as the narratives of its communities. It captured the district’s many aspects that give its character: from public to private art, libraries and education, lifestyle and leisure, and the changing skyline of this future space.

This 300-page volume was based on thousands of hours of research and interviews; with more than 200 never-before-seen archival pictures and all-original photographs taken on foot and by drone; was well-received by media.
