Collaborating with Lucid Reality Labs, the American Red Cross developed one of the most impactful use cases to train lifeguards to recognize a water emergency and help save lives using virtual reality. A collection of the eight real-world pool environments allows lifeguards to practice and polish drowning recognition skills taught in Red Cross lifeguard training. Another range of scenarios is in production. The project launch is planned for the end of 2023.

  5. If you are providing written answers for your submission, you must provide an answer to this second question: Describe the features, functions, and benefits of the nominated product or service (up to 350 words):

    Total 162 words used.

In the USA, more children ages 1–4 die from drowning than any other cause of death. For children ages 5–14, drowning is the second leading cause of unintentional injury death after motor vehicle crashes (according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention). To address this immense challenge, the American Red Cross focuses its efforts on providing knowledge and skills to help prevent, recognize and respond to aquatic emergencies. However, many critical components of lifeguard training are not replicable in a traditional training environment.

Therefore, collaborating with Lucid Reality Labs, the American Red Cross developed one of the organization’s most impactful use cases to teach lifeguards to save lives using Virtual Reality (VR). Lifeguard VR was created, modernizing lifeguard training and providing a more engaging and effective learning experience. Lifeguard VR has a collection of real-world pool environments, allowing lifeguards to practice and polish victim recognition skills taught in Red Cross Lifeguard training. The solution is created for Oculus Quest 2 devices.

  6. If you are providing written answers for your submission, you must provide an answer to this third question: Outline the market performance, critical reception, and customer satisfaction with the product or service to date. State monetary or unit sales figures to date, if possible, and how they compare to expectations or past performance. Provide links to laudatory product or service reviews. Include some customer testimonials, if applicable (up to 350 words):

    Total 74 words used.

The solution was highly praised by the American Red Cross aquatic experts. Its primary goal would be to ensure that game-changing non-profit organizations have a tool to enhance education directly correlating to the number of lives saved during swimming. The developed solution, however, can be scaled and replicated by the private players on the educational and training industry as it helps aquatic managers make data-driven decisions to ensure the training excellence at its best.
