    Julian Allitt (Born 11.01.46 in Blackpool, England) is a UK citizen with a 50-year career in radio in England, Germany, and the United Arab Emirates. 

    He is currently the CEO and Owner of JazzRadio Berlin, Germany’s only 24/7 FM jazz music radio station.

    In a richly varied career in three countries, Julian has:

    • initiated and launched 3 new radio stations

    • Been CEO of 6 radio stations in the UK and Germany

    • Set up JazzArabia in Abu Dhabi, UAE, the first jazz radio station in the MENA region

    • Was part of a 3-person team which achieved the first major takeover in UK commercial radio (Piccadilly Radio, Manchester)

    • Served as assistant managing director in the UK Stock Exchange-listed Transworld radio group

    • Served on a 6-person committee which established the UK Radio Advertising Bureau

    • Was News Director of Red Rose Radio, Lancashire, England, which in its first year on-air won the ‘Best News Magazine Programme’ Award in the UK Rediffusion Local Radio Awards

    • Established and was Head of the School of Journalism at The University of Central Lancashire, described by The Guardian newspaper in 2022 as the best in the UK

    • In two years increased the Journalism School’s representation of black and ethnic minority students from 2 to 37 per cent (simply by placing course information inviting applications in the ethnic minority Press)

    • Achieved 100 per cent employment for radio, TV and newspaper journalism students by intensive counselling and support at all stages of their applications

    • Served for three years as CEO of Piccadilly Radio AM and Key103 FM, Manchester, taking Key103 from No.4 to No. 1 in the regional market

    • Set up The Bay96.9FM serving Morecambe Bay and the English Lake District, achieving the second best audience reach at launch of a UK radio station & No. 1 in regional market

    • Showed support for local shipbuilders by inviting the Captain of Britain’s first nuclear submarine to launch the radio station live on-air

    • Was a visiting lecturer at Lancaster University Business School and Sheffield University Department of Journalism

    • TheBay96.9 FM became the first English radio station to win the Government’s ‘Investor in People’ Award for the quality of its staff management and career development

    • On the recommendation of US radio broker Robert Richer, was invited to become CEO of radio pilot group JazzRadio Berlin, co-writing the station’s successful application for a full 7-year licence to broadcast

    • Led a successful challenge at the German national competition court to restrictive practices excluding smaller radio stations from the national audience ‘Media-Analyse’ audience research survey

    • JazzRadio Berlin has won more international radio programming awards (24 in total) than any other German radio station apart from national public broadcaster Deutsche Welle

    • Wrote the strategy paper which led to the establishment of Radiozentrale, Germany’s own radio advertising bureau

    • Initiated a successful campaign to bring the US National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) European conference to Berlin.
