The Metaverse, which is seen as the future of the Internet, is seen as a powerful technology that can settle into the routine of life for people of all age groups. In the near future, when meta universes become a part of the natural flow of life, it is predicted that it will be a very critical channel for the banking sector to reach customers and perform banking transactions. It is inevitable that Metaverse technology, which international consulting companies and technology publications place at the top of the list of technology trends, will fundamentally change the way the banking sector does business.
With this vision, Halkbank, one of the leading government-owned banks in Turkey, sees the Metaverse as one of the important steps of the banking of the future and has assumed a shaping role in this field and launched the Halkbank Metaverse Branch and Event Center in November 2022.
The aim of the Halkbank Metaverse project is to create ways of doing business that are compatible with this technology from its early stages and to prepare the whole society, especially young people, for the future by drawing them into this world through gamified content and activities.
There are currently two buildings in Halkbank Metaverse area. The first is the Halkbank Metaverse Branch. With special capsules and robot avatar customer service points created for different customer segments in the branch, customers can get information about products and services, communicate with avatars to stay within a certain text, and tour the branch with the welcome robot.
The Event Center is designed as an area where interviews, concerts and events are held with avatars and music is broadcasted.
Halkbank Metaverse port can be accessed via mobile phones through the GoArt Metaverse mobile application. The structure created using augmented reality technology has two separate categories: Virtual Discovery and AR Discovery. In Virtual Exploration, one navigates in the metaverse with directional buttons, while in AR Exploration, progress is made simultaneously with physical progress.
Halkbank Metaverse Branch was the first bank branch to be opened in a native universe and the first public bank in the Metaverse. And Halkbank was the first bank in Turkey to establish a "Metaverse Department Directorate" in order to make its presence in the Metaverse universe permanent.
Halkbank Metaverse Event Center broke new ground in the world by hosting The Istanbul 2022 Symposium event by the International Association of Liver Surgeons. It was held at Halkbank Metaverse Event Center as a digital twin for the first time in the world. During the 12-hour symposium, more than 50 scientists from 20 different countries discussed liver transplantation worldwide, while the digital twin of the physical symposium was held in our Metaverse Event Center by speakers’ avatars.
Halkbank Metaverse campus differs from similar applications in the sector with many features:
-Company assets in the Metaverse are generally based on temporary activities such as sharing an event, a video or a promotional movie. Contrary, Halkbank Metaverse portal has a role in developing the banking sector and metaverse technologies in Turkey as an application that is continuously developed and gains new features every month.
-With the Metaverse branch, Halkbank offers users a three-dimensional bank branch experience on their mobile phones with augmented reality technology.
-In the Metaverse universe, 3 robot avatars are positioned to respond to customer needs. Users can receive information about banking transactions from these robot avatar customer representatives and communicate in limited areas.
-Different activities are periodically organized on the Halkbank Metaverse portal. For example, with the integration of Augmented Reality technology and Metaverse, NFT hunts were organized at universities to find NFTs hidden on campus. As young people collect NFTs, the Promotion Codes they receive turn into opportunities and rewards on the Halkbank Mobile application.
