    THE PROBLEM

UK care and nursing home costs can be as high as $10,000 per week. That’s up to and over half a million dollars annually.

The UK’s National Health Service (NHS) can fund care homes for those with no savings or property, but there is a flaw in the way this is assessed – those with some savings or property shared by other family members are often forced to sell family homes, drain shared accounts and empty pension funds, leaving nothing for their spouses or children to inherit. A lifetime’s careful saving can be lost in a few short months. This is the reality and is, in its own right, a national scandal.

    TIM DAVIES IDENTIFIES A SOLUTION

In 2014, Solicitor Tim Davies identified an opportunity, forming the aptly-named ‘Compass CHC’, guiding applicants through the complex and often flawed NHS assessment process to qualify for financial and care assistance. He started as a one-man-band, taking on individual cases and running Compass ‘From a broom closet’ and later on, from a small office above a shop.

Over the ensuing decade, Tim has built the UK’s leading continuing healthcare advice provider. He has navigated a pandemic, changing governments and NHS policies, a cost-of-living crisis, and built a respectful relationship with the UK health Ombudsman, the NHS, and will celebrate supporting over 7,000 clients this year ().

Today, the Compass team is made up of a combination of non-practicing solicitors, aspiring lawyers and healthcare specialists, including nurses, tissue viability specialists and pharmacists, who review and consider medical evidence from a clinical perspective before drafting reasoned, substantiated arguments to the NHS seeking continuing healthcare support. Compass has served as a ‘foot on the ladder’ for hundreds of law graduates, who gain valuable experience working for us ().

    TEN YEARS TO TEN MILLION

This year has been especially significant for Tim and Compass CHC, as we break £10,000,000 turnover ($12.8m) with a projected 2023/24 turnover of £13million ($16.9m). Our success and growth have culminated in Compass’ recent multi-million-pound partnership with experienced investment firm Omni Partners, who will assist in delivering these needed services to patients across the UK (3).

    HELPING REAL PEOPLE

It’s easy to forget that each of the 7,000 clients supported represents a solution for someone in desperate need, and often a family’s savings and finances preserved. One of Tim’s recent cases shows just how far Compass is willing to go to secure a positive outcome for each and every client (4). In another recent case, Compass CHC successfully recovered over £200,000 ($250,000+) in care costs that were incorrectly charged. These were costs which should never been incurred, but thankfully due to our tireless efforts, secured a significant recovery which, in any other case, would not have been possible.

Even experts have struggled to navigate the Continuing healthcare process. In one recent case, Compass CHC assisted a retired doctor and his wife in securing funding for a parent in care (5), and in another, helped a recognized legal expert (A ‘QC’ or ‘Queen’s Counsel’) navigate the NHS funding minefield ().

Other NHS Trusts and council representatives have gone on record to praise Compass and highlight the scope of the issue surrounding continuing healthcare funding (7).

    INCREASINGLY IMPORTANT SERVICE PROVISION

The issues with obtaining care funding continue to this day, with no end or solution in sight (8). Meanwhile, Tim’s company continues to help those in need, with excellent customer reviews (9), and Trustpilot scores above the competition (10). It is now more important than ever before that Compass CHC expand its ability to support those in need across the UK with the help of Omni Partners.

    MENTORING AND CHARITABLE DONATIONS

Tim supports graduates and colleagues furthering their legal careers, and is currently mentoring a young entrepreneur building his own coaching business. Since 2022 under Tim’s leadership, Compass CHC
