Tata Consultancy Services Human Resources’ objective in 2014 was to enhance the role of being a strategic business partner and deliver to the expectations of all key stake holders of the organisation.
In 2014, Narasimhan Srinivasan as the Vice-President and Head of Human Resources for North America understood the changing business landscape and focused on introducing innovative people practices to fuel industry leading growth and also inculcate a culture of community engagement.
Narasimhan determined the HR strategy of 2014 on four key pillars. Attracting, hiring and utilizing a highly mobile and diverse workforce, engaging a new generational workforce, Professional Development and inculcating the culture of Community Engagement.
Attracting, hiring and utilizing a highly mobile and diverse workforce
In this intense war for talent Narsi’s worked diligently to attract Top quality global talent by creating mindshare in universities and the lateral workforce. With 11,000 applications for TCS, 2014 saw over an 18% increase from 2013.
Under his leadership, TCS increased its presence in campuses by hosting over 143 Career fairs covering a record 71,500 students, almost a 100% increase than 2013. In 2014, TCS visited 85 Colleges, the highest ever for TCS in North America. There was a 36% increase in the Campus hire numbers in 2014, from 367 in 2013 to 575 in 2014 with an improved joining ratio of 78.4%.
More than 3300 Professional and technical hires joined TCS in 2014, 2014 also saw a record 7615 expats being moved from the Global Talent Pool into TCS North America to staff customer engagements.
Engaging a new generational workforce and Professional Development,
The internal online social platform “Knome’’ has seen massive adoption across North America. Over 23,000 active users, 18,000 blogs, 26, 000 likes, 715 ideas and 1,275 Badge winners have been hosted through knome in 2014
In conjunction with Fitness initiatives, Vitality, a new interactive and personalized wellness program, launched for employees across North America in 2014 has seen massive adaption.
In 2014, TCS announced the 8 year partnership with the New York Road Runners and TCS, branding the New York Marathon as the TCS New York Marathon. In 2014, the Fit4lLife programs, record 313, 949 hours were dedicated to fitness
Under his direction, 2014 saw over 30 HR Partners spread across US facilitate a record 320 Town halls and open houses and over 5000 one on one connects across 450 work locations across North America.
As the Head of HR, Narsi personally conducts HR connects with senior employees and new hires on a monthly basis. These connects help in establishing senior HR connect and introduction to TCS for new hires.
Professional Development
Narasimhan helped in building a Learning & Development Plan that enabled over 1500 leaders benefit from various leadership development programs. A 35% increase from 2013. Compared to 2013, there was a 53% increase in the number of sessions conducted in 2014.
Realizing the need for grooming internal leaders Narasimhan facilitated 18 of our senior leaders benefit from the Tata Group Leadership Seminar conducted by the Ross School of Business, Michigan in 2014, compared to 7 in 2013. Three of our senior executives were part of the Advanced Management Program conducted by the Harvard Business School.
In 2014, TCS has seen a over 3% increase in progression of leadership roles. This year also saw an over 18% increase in Career Development Sessions. There was an 8% increase in the Performance Management sessions for Leaders
Inculcating the culture of Community Engagement
Narasimhan other key focus was on community engagement. 2014 saw 11,423 TCS volunteers which include over 1,598 in the area of STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) participating in events for health, education and environment causes. In 2014, goIT TCS’ signature community engagement program achieved remarkable growth, attracting 1,800+ new students, expanding from three to twelve cities and training over 360 new employee mentors. TCS won the ‘npower’ TCC Volunteer team of the year in 2014.
