Nomination Title: David Roomes, Senior Graphics Analyst

Tell the story about what this nominee achieved in 2003 (up to 500 words). Focus on specific accomplishments, and relate these accomplishments to past performance or industry norms. Be sure to mention obstacles overcome, innovations or discoveries made, and outcomes:

Since joining PACCAR Inc in April 1997, David Roomes has led the evolution of
audio-visual and presentation support to a state-of-the-art operation recognized
company-wide. David is now responsible for establishing audio-visual standards for
PACCAR’s global operations and for providing presentation support for all major
corporate events.  This includes integrating state-of-the-art computers, video
decks, digital projectors and a variety of editing, compositing and animation
software, which when combined, result in World Class presentations.  David’s
mastery of both audio-visual hardware and graphics software has transformed the
PACCAR Corporate Graphics Department into a highly effective operation for
generating and viewing top-notch digital presentations.

David has successfully launched the effort to standardize equipment and
presentations for all of PACCAR’s locations.  He reviews all new audio-visual
hardware requests to ensure that presentation standards are maintained.  This
alone has saved the company an enormous amount of money.  Over a period of
years, the department support capabilities have shifted from producing 35mm slide
presentations to a diverse spectrum of projects such as computer animation,
animated logos, digital compositing, morphs, audio recording and video work. The
latter includes several video projects done entirely in-house at a cost of less than
$100 per minute of finished footage as compared to an outsourcing cost of $2000
per minute. In addition, David has worked to upgrade and standardize the
Corporate building’s three main conference rooms so that they are now multimedia
centers capable of delivering presentation media in a variety of formats.

In addition to David’s insight for new audio-visual technology, his meticulous pre-
planning for each event and can-do attitude are recognized by executives and his
peers company-wide.   For example, David has instituted a requirement that all
major meetings have redundant system components in place just in case a
computer crashes or perhaps a project lamp burns out during a presentation.

Most telling about David, however, is the fact that he has always maintained his
sense of professionalism despite the challenges and seemingly insurmountable
last minute changes that always seem to arise with high-level Corporate
meetings.
