Nomination Title: The Volta Response System
The Volta Response System was launched in Huntington Beach, California to support the vital community messaging efforts of first responders battling COVID-19, at no cost to taxpayers in April 2020. In the face of the crisis, Volta offered their digital advertising displays to city officials and first responders seeking to strengthen their capacity to communicate public safety alerts in a dynamic way that maximizes immediate messaging while minimizing the need for hands-on labor by first responders.
Volta’s highly visible stations are uniquely positioned to disseminate critical information to hard-to-reach and vulnerable community members. Volta’s team works collaboratively with local officials to deploy their alerts, broadcasting real-time dynamic information.
Results: What the first responders had to say about the Volta Response System:
“I spent 20 plus years overseeing 911 call centers. The Volta Response System’s ability to reach people can be an instrumental part of our most urgent priorities, whether warning people of an active shooter, or locating a missing child.” -Commander Ben Horner (Ret.), Union City Police Department, Alameda County, California
"From our first email to Volta, to getting our signage on the stations and in front of difficult to reach populations, it was so simple. One of the neat things about Volta is it survives the elements and looks beautiful 24/7.” - Firefighter Eric Blaska, Paramedic/Public Information Officer, Huntington Beach
