ViewSonic is the first company to introduce its Smart Display, which is changing the way consumers use their home computers. ViewSonic’s airpanel V150 Smart Display is a 15-inch wireless touch screen monitor intended for remote mobile use throughout the home, in addition to serving as the primary desktop monitor. The V150 extends the power of a Windows XP Professional computer to any room in the home, connecting consumers to the information, applications and services they enjoy anywhere and anytime they need them. Consumers are given the power to quickly and easily browse the Web, read and write e-mail, listen to music and view and edit digital images throughout the home in a relaxed and informal setting, regardless of where the PC is located. Through the integrated 802.11b connection, users may download recipes in the kitchen, surf the Web from the couch, check e-mail while lying in bed, or share digital pictures on the patio.

The airpanel V150 Smart Display features a high luminance, full-color, touch screen display based on Windows CE for Smart Displays technology and interoperability with Windows XP Professional on a home PC. The device runs on a long-life battery, which lasts up to 4 hours and is equipped with a 400MHz Intel® XScale™ technology-based processor for added speed, power savings and efficiency. The airpanel V150 Smart Display functions with 32MB of ROM Flash memory, 64MB SDRAM and built in 802.11b wireless technology for easy wireless access to a home PC.

The concept of the airpanel V150 Smart Display was announced in January 2002 and was brought to market in less than a year. Its availability was announced on January 7, 2003 and it is currently available at leading online and storefront retailers, including CompUSA, Amazon.com, Buy.com, Fry’s Electronics and RCS, for $1,299. The V150 is offered with everything the consumer needs to get the device up and running right out of the box, including integrated wireless 802.11 Wi-Fi™, a USB wireless adapter solution and an upgrade to the Microsoft® Windows XP Professional operating system.

The airpanel V150 has already received numerous accolades from top-tier industry publications since its introduction. Popular Science named the device “Best of What’s New” in 2002, noting its innovative qualities. In addition, PC Magazine presented the “Best of Comdex” award in the personal hardware category, to the airpanel V150.
