Sharebite was founded with a vision: to get every worker in America fed. We’ve worked to realize this vision from day one by offering companies the easiest, most innovative ways to feed their teams and matching each meal ordered through our platform with a meal donation through partnerships with Feeding America and City Harvest. Initially, Sharebite operated primarily through Sharebite Stations, a centralized in-office food delivery service.

By February 2020, each new day set a new record for daily order volume. Then the pandemic hit, shutting down the world and closing offices overnight. Employees were suddenly thrust into makeshift home offices—grappling with the challenge of blending work and home life, adapting to new remote collaboration tools, and combating feelings of isolation. This transition inevitably impacted workplace culture, along with the camaraderie and sense of community generated from in-person work. Decentralized work environments consequently left millions of employees feeling detached from their work, causing unprecedented rates of burnout. To solve this, companies had no choice but to find new ways to engage and support their employees at home. Sharebite recognized this growing need and got to work. Our CEO and Engineering team held daily touchpoints to discover a way to pivot our main product offering to meet the evolving needs of companies nationwide.

In early 2021, we introduced Sharebite Passport—a flexible and fully programmatic virtual meal allowance card, in the form of a Visa® card, that allows employees to order meals from any restaurant or third-party delivery platform. Companies of all sizes and maturity levels [REDACTED FOR PUBLICATION] have implemented Passport as a benefit for their employees, whether they work from home, in the office, or a combination of both.

Since 2023, Sharebite has further adapted Passport in order to account for the evolving needs of today’s workplaces. Now boasting over 100 features, Passport enables companies to use their meal programs to accomplish far more than just feeding their employees, such as encouraging RTO and boosting employee engagement.

    • Across the United States, 90% of companies mandate office presence, yet many consistently struggle to improve occupancy. Passport’s Geofencing technology now enables companies to set GPS-defined boundaries around their offices that unlock an employees’ meal allowance when they enter a certain radius—offering a strategic solution to incentivize RTO.

    • Sharebite Engage, Passport’s new suite of engagement features, offers a slew of functions to support companies looking to solve disconnection in today’s workplace. Sharebite Engage enables self-organized group lunches and coffee chats [REDACTED FOR PUBLICATION] through centralized budgets; facilitates peer appreciation by allowing employees to send each other meal rewards as a “thanks”; and keeps a finger on the pulse of employee sentiment through regular engagement surveys.

    • HR leaders commonly cite the burden of administrative tasks as detractors from strategic initiatives. Passport reduces this with updates to its centralized, user-friendly dashboard where admins can customize meal allowances, track utilization, view robust analytics, and more—all in one place.
    • In order to further streamline the use of meal allowances, employees can now place orders at their favorite local restaurants directly in the Sharebite Passport app.

With these enhancements, Sharebite has transformed Passport from a pioneering solution into a multifaceted asset that’s become indispensable to the daily operations of hundreds of leading companies. Passport now transcends its origins as a mission-driven meal benefits platform—enhancing employee wellbeing, strengthening culture, and offering employers a robust set of HR tools. These improvements have enabled Sharebite’s fight against hunger to flourish—resulting in over 12 million meals donated to food-insecure communities as of January 2025.
