For over 50 years, UNIFI® has been at the forefront of materials innovation, and through the creation of REPREVE® in 2007, has redefined textile sustainability. REPREVE is a recycled polyester (rPET) fiber alternative to virgin polyester and a global leader in recycled performance fibers, aiming to reduce carbon emissions by giving discarded resources fresh purpose as high-performance materials

Since its creation, REPREVE has transformed over 40 billion plastic bottles and over 950 million T-shirts’ worth of textile and yarn waste into recycled polyester fiber for new apparel, footwear, home goods, and other consumer products. REPREVE is on track to divert more than 50 billion bottles from landfills by 2025 and recycle the equivalent of 1.5 billion T-shirts' worth of textile and yarn waste into new products by FY2030.

While plastic packaging-to-polyester recycling has been a cornerstone of REPREVE and its industry-leading innovations, UNIFI also expands its reach into textile-to-textile recycling, laying the foundation for a circular textile economy.

A prime example is the ever-growing REPREVE Textile Takeback™ program, designed to extend the life cycle of polyester through advanced textile-to-textile recycling technology.  In August, REPREVE became the largest portfolio of circular performance polyester in the world with the launch of two new products, REPREVE Takeback™ white filament yarn, and ThermaLoop™ insulation, both made possible through its industry-leading Textile Takeback™ program. REPREVE Takeback white filament yarn and ThermaLoop Insulation are made with 100% recycled materials* (less colorants and additives), with at least 50% fabric waste, and boast one-of-a-kind FiberPrint® tracer technology for U-TRUST® certification.

Both products achieve virgin-quality standards, and their applications span various industries, including performance apparel, outerwear, sportswear, outdoor gear (sleeping bags), and accessories (gloves, hats, etc.). These two offerings are a revolutionary benchmark in sustainable textile production.

REPREVE Takeback Filament Yarn, powered by Textile Takeback:

    • White, virgin-analogous filament yarn can be dyed using conventional dye processes across all colorways.

    • Yarn can be further enhanced with UNIFI performance technologies, including anti-odor, moisture, and stretch.

    • Represents a major leap forward in scalable textile-to-textile recycling, given its versatility and suitability for high-end textiles.

ThermaLoop Insulation, powered by Textile Takeback:

    • ThermaLoop comes in three variations for various insulation applications: padding, down-like fiber, and fiberball.

    • ThermaLoop padding is engineered with REPREVE low melt fiber, a breakthrough technology, enabling synthetic padding to be made from 100% recycled materials*.

    • Engineered to be fast-drying, lightweight, and machine washable, this insulation delivers performance, thermal efficiency, and REPREVE sustainability.

REPREVE offers several product lines that deepen its sustainability impact. REPREVE Our Ocean® turns plastic bottles at high risk of ocean pollution into a premium fiber collection, certified by OceanCycle®.  This organization also works to improve livelihoods in coastal communities, allowing brands to create eco-friendly products while actively contributing to ocean conservation. In July, REPREVE announced its collaboration with QVC x Jennie Garth on a new denim collection called “Me” that utilized REPREVE Our Ocean. The first launch of the collection featured all denim pieces made using REPREVE Our Ocean, with each item constructed from between 13-28 recycled plastic bottles.

Additionally, in April, REPREVE worked with TEVA and Terracycle to collect used TEVA shoe straps to be cleaned, processed, and transformed into straps for the new TEVA Universal ReLoop sandals. In August, REPREVE worked with Brazilian designer and LVMH Prize semi-finalist Joao Maraschin, where he showcased his newest collection, “ROAD TRIP” at Copenhagen Fashion Week, featuring three pieces made using REPREVE yarn. These partnerships are founded on a shared commitment to environmental responsibility and the value of advancing sustainable fashion for a lasting impact.

To ensure complete transparency and traceability, all REPREVE products offer the U-TRUST product certification. This certification gives brands additional verification for products made with REPREVE recycled fibers, reinforcing UNIFI’s commitment to accountability and sustainability in every fiber. The certification and verification system is powered by REPREVE’S proprietary FiberPrint tracer technology.

*100% recycled materials refers to the base polymer excluding colorants and/or additive packages
